 It's me again, with another "chime" question.

My truck seems to have "developed" a chime when I first start it. The chime does not sound when I turn the key to the on position to wait for the grid heater light to go off. Once the engine starts, a single chime sounds. I have no codes showing.

I have my seatbelt reminder set to off, and so the seatbelt makes no sound whether fastened or not. The chime will not sound again no matter how long the engine is running, but will sound a single time immediately after startup once it's been shut off.

Thanks,

Greg

Unless Ryecreek is correct, this may be the ABS computer. Mine has done it periodically since new.

What happens is, the ABS computer illuminates the ABS dash light on startup. Sometimes, for whatever reason, the light remains on just long enough that the dash chimes exactly once, then the light goes out. I think it's due to subtle changes to the bootup time for the ABS computer.

If that's the case, it's safe to completely ignore it.

Do you guys know how I can tell if it's a soft code for the 4x4 switch? My Diablosport Predator doesn't show any codes. It may not show "soft codes". When I do the "Key on 3 times" to check for codes, I do not see any either.

I’ve had that kind of chime once and a while and never confirmed what actually caused it. Seems there are many things that can cause a single chime. Something with the airbag indicator warning light, low washer fluid or low fuel will produce only one chime per ignition cycle. Resetting the overhead trip computer is supposed to cause a single chime. Sounds like the other computer modules can request a chime to indicate a problem as well.

Keep in mind the instrument cluster can store its own trouble codes. You can pull the Instrument Cluster Failure message codes by initiating an instrument cluster actuator test. See the bottom of this post for how to do the test: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/2048145-post27.html

See this post for a list of the codes. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/2012826-post4.html
