Hi guys. It is time for a new TC. You can see my truck in my sig. Future plans for truck are some 50 hp injectors, more efficient turbo, Air Dog. Probably a Smarty after the TC as well. That's about it. I do some light towing a few days a week, no more than 4000 lbs. No track racing ever, just some rice burners on the street. Maybe I will sled pull a time or two in the future, just to say I did it and get pictures. Do I want the triple or the single disk? Is one more efficient? Do I get a billet input? What about the flex plate? And what is my mechanic talking about when he says I need to do the bands or whatever cause the top gear is gonna be worn right out of it? Thanks guys and gals.

Best disc TC

I've run the Suncoast Triple Disc and the ATS 5* Star. Both of those are excellent. I've never run a single disc so I can't really comment but I think most will agree that the multi disc clutches are the best so it follows, at least IMHO, that the multi disc TC's would be best. I would buy both of the above and know that I spent my $$$ well.

How many miles do you have?? and what setting on the tuner??

The price difference between a single and a triple is $500 or less... I would get the triple.

Laminated flex plate is a must especially since you are going to doing the TC.

I don't know how long you have had the DTT vb or MH pan, but you need to check the specs on the vb and see if it increases your line pressure to 190psi to 215psi right off of idle and then stays flat above that. The line pressure increase down early in the RPM helps your TC and bands/clutches not slip.

You need a billet input shaft for sled pulls, need a billet output if you plan to launch with boost.

you sound like a candidate for a single. i've done DTT singles in two trucks and never had issues with either. my truck usage is comparable to what you described in your post. my truck has an easy life compared to most. i've no experience with triples, i'm sure they're good too.

Goerand and DTT will be very frank with you about what would work best for you if you give em a buzz. other companies make nice stuff too but are more inclined to do the upsale thing if given the opportunity, imo.

if you call em ask for the main guys... bill @ DTT or dave i think at georand. it's worth the effort to get them on the phone even if you have to be patient about it.

My DTT w/single worked perfectly for me. I was runnning Mach 1. 6's and an Edge EZ. Nice shifts and solid,no shutter overdrive lockup.

DTT makes a VERY strong single that weighs somewhere around 40lbs less than a tripple. I don't get a good felling spinning a 90lb t/c right by my feet at 4k

Its a little less than 20 lbs difference now with the Super Single which is all that DTT offeres for a single disk now along with the tripple. New desings and materials have made converters better and able to hold more over the years.

Another DTT single here... nice TC, solid engineering, no BS, instant torque to the wheels. For the long haul the simplest solution may be the best. I've got about 90K miles on my DTT and it still hits like new.

Nice!

I recently rode in foolkiller's '07 w/DTT upgrade and DTT has outdone itself in refining the conversion. Nice firm shifts without the jolt my '99 occasionally would produce under light throttle upshifts. I suspect the combination of a good install,DTT's upgraded components and different electronics on these new trucks makes for the difference. Very nice. If I had a thick wallet and were to do it again,I may have gone with the auto. :)

My DTT installer said DTT is recommending single disc TC's, something about less mechanical shock to the rest of the transmission when lock up occurs. The most important factor my installer stressed was would I be pulling more than 12K. I didn't know what I might be doing next year so I went with billet flex plate, billet input shaft, billet third gear drum, single disc TC with billet cover and the rest of the standard DTT upgrade.

I ran a DTT T/C in a mildly juiced 2001. 5 and it always hooked up good. I towed hard with it and even the trans temps stayed generally at 160 deg.

Banks TQ

I just installed a Banks Billet TQ and am very pleased with it. I was told the stock TQ can only hold 700 'lbs of torque and the Banks Billet can take 1600 'lbs. I picked up 2 miles per gallon, the shifts are firm and I now can run full power on my banks 6 gun up a 6% grade pulling 15K on cruise control. With the stock TQ, when I floored it it would go straight to 3,000 rpm and slowly accelerate. After the TQ change, it amazed me of how fast you can go when all the power is getting to the rear wheels. The first full throttle run was scarry as I never expected THAT much change.
