Sirius or XM Satellite Radio...

I am considering getting the satellite radio system, the one with no commercials and with like 180 different channels to choose from. Which one would you get and do you already have one and do you like it or have any dislikes about it? Thanks

I have the Sirius and love it. I spend alot of time on the road and just got tired of the lawyer and male enhancement commercials all day long



It has a wide variety of music and entertainment to listen to. They also have NFL. Every game every week. I think XM has NASCAR though .



The music channels are all commercial free. There are no extra fees for "premium" programming. Also all of the major cable news channels are on: CNN, FOX, CNBC, THE WEATHER CHANNEL. I'm not sure what your occupation is, but they also have a trucker's channel They have an all Elvis channel too.



If you like variety, commercial free music, no static, etc. you'll probably like satellite radio. Obviously I'm partial to Sirius, however I'm sure there are advantages and disadvantages to both.



BTW, I'm not sure if you still can,but you used to be able to listen to Sirius on line. www.siriusradio.com

I ended up choosing the XM over Sirius simply because of the NASCAR channels. Take a look at both plans to see if it includes something specific that you are looking for. If I'm not mistaking, Sirius will be picking up Howard Stern next year and XM is landing a contract with MLB to cover almost every team next season.



No matter which one you choose, I think you will be impressed. It has become one of those "How did I ever live without it" things for me.

I've had xm for about two years. I love it. XM has the Opie and Anthony show. WAY better then the Howard "listen to me ***** about the gov. for two hours every day" Stern.



My mother just bought Sirius for her vehicle. I am interested to compare the two.

Got by brother (mmclain) the Sirius in Sept. He loves it. Works great since he is running around the oil fields in desolate WY. His only complaint seems to be the same as everyone elses, the NASCAR channel.

I chose Sirius b/c i was told that they had more channels. I have had a some major problems with all the billing stuff, like them hitting my card for mysterious charges (total-about $60 ). that is my only complaint.

Have used XM here and there and it was great, don't which one i would choose though

btw- they did refund the "mysterious" charges, but continued to hit it afterwards, card now disabled due to bank change, so i'll see what they'll do now. do wish that you could access your Sirius account online, every other company in america seems to have that.

but still stands- my brother loves it, so who knows?

I had Sirius installed by the dealer before I took delivery of the truck because I wanted a "clean" installation with control of the satellite radio from the factory stereo. I'm very pleased with it. I don't need the Nascar channel.

XM has constant traffic and weather for major metro areas. Works well for Me.

I have had XM for a year now and have found it to be worth every penny of the $10/mn. However, there are several reasons my situation may make sat radio more attractive to me than most. I do not have a TV and radio is my main diversion, my office is under the power lines and regular radio is not an option and the sat works flawless, I am a talk radio junkie and the mix of XM at work and AM fills the void (I rarely set up xm at home and use it constantly in the truck and office), the selection of regular radio stations is limited here especially during the day time. It takes me about three minutes to adapt the xm to the company truck if I'm going somewhere.



Down side, I would like to have the NFL and NBA games and not the hoaky sports talk shows. I mainly listen to 166 talk, 32 christian, 14 bluegrass, or 46 classic rock hits. I've heard the sat orbit system used by xm (asynchronous or some such beast) is suppose to be a little better. All I know is that it works except tunnels and when the road is adjacent to a cliff. Upside to sirius is the Dodges have the radio "sirius ready".



To me the best way of deciding would be to review what is offered on each and get what best matches your tastes.

I am a XM subscriber and have been since they began a few years ago. I have had no complaints with this and it seems to keep getting better. Newer equipment with more features,easier to hook up now than when they first began and more show/channels than I'll ever use,LOL. I have alot of miles under my rear with the XM and can honestly say it is the single most important addition to a professional drivers job. The new traffic and weather channels save alot of time and expense and couple it with a emergency 24/7 band its makes the long haul drivers job alot easier. Its nice to set the station to one channel in Harrisburg,PA and go to Fontana,CA and not have to change it unless you want to.



Now with me only running a nightly turn run I rely on it even more. My nightly run is spent half of the night listening to "JT The Brick" on Fox Sports and the rest jammin to the Boneyard. The recent addition of Opie and Anthony has made for a barrel of late nite laughs and is well worth the little bit extra for them. TWO major reasons why I would never leave XM is College Football(the place where the game is still played with passion and respect) and the upcoming MLB season. I am a HUGE fan of baseball on the radio and still feel there is nothing better than it,guess its something my father and grandfather passed on to me. I'd rather sit outside and deal with the chance of loosing my favorite teams broadcast at nite than watching on TV. Now with MLB coming to XM it will redefine baseball broadcasts and make it easier for those far away from their favorite team to enjoy their broadcasts.



At any rate I can honestly say I have never listened to Sirius and their recent addition of Stern will not waver me to going there. I have had the opportunity to listen to him since his very humble beginnings in NYC,to DC and then back to NYC. His show at one time was one of the very best and has been going downhill for alot longer than his recent "government intervention" claims. I'd like to think that satellite will rekindle the fire in his severly watered down show,but,realistically,what more can he do on the radio waves. I am a firm believer that his show has done about all he could ever do which has caused the staleness. Time willl tell...
