Internet Slowdowns. . .

Murphy has struck yet again  ! The site basically ground to a halt last night at 12:30 am eastern time. This was due to an Internet Worm that affected Microsoft SQL 2000 servers. It did not affect our servers in any way but did affect the routers in the co-lo facility that they are housed at. The server was never completely unavailable but accessing it was SOOOOOOO slow that you would think it was (like 20 minutes to load a page on my 500K cable connection).

I became aware of the slow performance soon after it happened and was on the phone between 12:30 and 4:00 am trying to get ahold of the facility to get it fixed. This morning was when I found out the cause. Unforetunately our host was slower to fix the issue than many others and just got the traffic level restored in the last 15 minutes. You can read details on the worm and how it had effects across the globe at Yahoo News.

Up until the outage we continued to have performance and support concerns with this host company. For those reasons we are moving the servers to a new facility the beginning of February. See this thread for details - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65361 .

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Although, ROb did find a way to keep himself busy chatting with your buddy Kenworth, Steve.

Chatting?:-laff I think Rob makes a commit, and KW SCREAMS. Havn't seen someone so unwilling to hear the other side, and listen to it since Don or Gene. :p

Thanks for your hard work Steve. Just to let you know it is still running real slow (3 minutes to bring up a thread??) Think this vendors support is bad now just think what it will be like between now and when you move the site :(

hanks for trying to fix things up, just FYI my cable connection I couldn't evven access the forums... ..... I have upto 3MBps, but highest I have seen is 2. 5MBps :) I usually float any where from 640k to 1. 75MBps in reality tho. My cable provider put up a notice this morning about the wyrm, I so I knew what was going on.

Again thanks for the efforts to keep this place going 24/7.
