Site running on server at new location - bug reports? FYI - no email notification

We're up and running on the server at the new facility. You probably got here from the forwarding page that's on the server at the old facility. For now you can just bookmark this address - http://139.81.139.106 . I will be updating the domain server registration tomorrow to point to this new address, then it will take some time for it to propogate to all of the DNS servers out there.

As far as I know the only thing not functioning right now is email notifications and emailing users. I've worked on it for a while tonight and I'm flat exhausted. There's something between the security on the server and the sendmail program that isn't allowing it to go through. It's 4:07 am and I've been working on the site all day and night and I'm going to bed now. BTW, the forums were down for an hour and a half total (from ~2:00 am - 3:30 am eastern) while I moved the latest data to the server at the new facility.

There will still be some down time once I get the other server to the new facility and do some testing. I'll be configuring the 2nd server to automatically take over if anything happens to the primary and will be testing it. I'm not sure when that will happen as of yet but I'll let you know when I can.

If you run into any problems please post them here and I'll get to them as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience during this transition.

Ya done good son. :D :D

It appears that things are running much quicker than they were earlier this evening. Another move towards the positive.

Good Job to all involved. You guys are the reason the TDR is #1.

In computer jargon it was seamless

Thanks so much Steve. Didn't realize just how slow the old location was till now. Click and the new page is like right now.

Inter-site links don't get you where you want to go (like a link to another thread in a post) but I guess that will change after the new address is worked out.

Thumbs up Steve

I noticed that the "one-shot-sigfile" has now been reinstated... . Just before the server move, your sigfile would be appended on the first and all subsequent posts in a thread - now it's just the first only, so that must help the performance somewhat.

Thanks Steve,

I work in IT Application Support and I know that our goal is to always minimize the impact to our "customers" when we make changes. You have done and OUTSTANDING job in that regard!

Kudos, Steve... that was minimal disruption of service.

The only way to have done better would have been to use a migration server and hot-patch the DNS after testing... and that costs bucks to have duplicate servers grinding away. I know -- we had a similar transition a year back and we couldn't sport the bucks for a migration server, so we had to deal with the downtime. Our downtime was a good bit longer than yours, too!

Job well done!

Email notifications are now working. I did find out tonight that the spell check isn't working. I worked on it some tonight but wasn't able to get it up and running and I'm running out of energy. This afternoon I will be moving the second server to the new facility and will be setting the slave server up to automatically take over from the master server if something happens to it. When I am testing that function the server will be going up and down so expect some down time. I will try to keep it to a minimum.

Steve, still working awesome here. Possibly the best it has ever been as far as speed is concerned. GOOD WORK!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!!! STEVE

I am on a dial up Earthlink connection in Memphis and the improvement is noticeable!

I do not know if it is related or not but I received a "TDR Roundtable Mailer" that was a reply to post "Ford dead at 387 miles" at 12:34 PM CST on 2/4/03. Not that that is unusual but I received it 12 times! Like I said, don't know if it was related but wanted to let you know if it helps in any way.

Thanks again for the hard work!

Bill :D :D :D

You're not the only one. I recieved the same report this post to a moderator email at least twenty times, filled one whole page of my Outlook inbox.

Not that it ever worked but the spell check is not working differently than it didn't work before.

I'm aware of the spell check problem. Once I recover from a LOOOOOONG week with little sleep I'll work on fixing it - everything else is up and running. Enjoy - I'm off to the airport :D .
