1999 Had out of commision for a few months. kept batteries maintained. When I got in to drive it my Brake light and ABS light are on. I drove it a few miles to check it out, and my speedometer not working. Odometer not working also. Whats up, where do I start with this? Please help its almost a 911 fix. trying this first to see if anyone can help.

I would start with the speed sensor on the rear axle. That's where truck gets signal for speed and odo, I think that is the signal for the rear wheel ABS. Have you pulled codes. If no scanner try the key trick, on off on off on read code in odometer window.

Yep, pull the rear sensor and clean it and reinstall. Also pull the electrical connection apart to make sure it is clean and corrosion free.

FYI, the key trick only works on 00+ models.

I would agree with maybe a wiring issue ( Rodents ). There are a few posts on here where I describe checking the sensor with a ohmmeter. The sensor does not need to be removed, just unplugged and ohmmed across the 2 pins. My old mind is telling me it should be around 1800. If that checks ok then it probably is not the sensor and a wiring check may reveal a problem.

Thanks I keep forgetting what year the key trick works on.

There are a few reasons why it was OOC Out Of Commission. I had the turbo rebuilt with a larger compressor wheel added. The intercooler boots were worn and weak, so I replaced them with B & D silicone boots. And added a Banks High Ram intake. I had to replace the block heater. While I did that I did a full cooling system flush. Found that my water pump was on its last leg. The radiator was plugged and started leaking, so replaced it. new thermostat with a new belt. Changed oil filter. Fuel filter. Then found that the speed sensor needed replaced. Got it up and running, OH MAN, SHE IS A ROCKET NOW! goes like a Bat out of HELL.

It works on older trucks. In some cases the CEL would flash a pattern. It was a lot better when they started using the odometer. In any case it won't help since it only shows codes from the ECM and PCM. To get at the ABS module you need a better code reader.

The Brake & ABS will turn on if the brake fluid is low. There's two versions of ABS -- the useless rear wheel ABS and the 4 wheel ABS that has front wheel sensors that became unplugged.

Were talking 24 valves not 12, there is no way to read the codes on any 24 valve prior to 2000.
