I am interested in performing a Six Speed conversion on my truck. I am having trouble finding the true info. of what all is involved. Has anyone out there in TDR land done one? If so I would appreciate hearing from them before I jump in with both feet. Info such as total cost, who is best to purchase parts from etc. Thanks, John

I looked into this a while back when I had a 92 dually with a bad getrag and the guys I talked to @ Drivetrain Specialists of Las Vegas were very heplful. I think there website is drivetrain.com.

In my current project I am going to use standard transmissions conv kit and go to a nv4500. The use a fully splined main shaft so there is no fifth gear problem. Its $2150 for 4x4 and $100 more for 2 wheel. I just can not justify the extar $1500 (approx) for the six speed. :p

I believe that New Venture Gear had a conversion kit on their web page for NV4500 - NV5600 conversions and one for Getrag - NV5600 conversions. I know I saw the kit somewhere, I was considering the swap myself, but bought a new truck instead. Good luck.

I saw them too... problem is they want $850 for the core charge plus the buy it noow price is $2395! The worst part is that you will never get the core charge back. My opinion is to go with nv4500 kit. Its just more cost effective. If you really want the six speed just wait til you get lucky and getone out of a truck that gets wrecked.
