Six Speed Noise

Is anyone out there having any excessive noise coming out of their six speed? I getting more noise out of my 04 than I did on my 01. Any ideas?

My opinion is you're hearing extra noises due to the fact the HPCR engines are so much quieter than the 2nd GEN 24V's. I'd suspect the noise has always been there in the NV5600; it was just previously covered up by the Cummins.

If you're talking about the noise it makes when you're idleing around at parkling lot speeds, then yes, mine makes more noise than my '01 did. I don't think it's the transmission though, I think it's the transfer case. Crawl underneath and wiggle the driveshaft backand forth. There's a sound that comes from the t-case that sounds like a slowed down version of what I hear when the trucks slowly moving. I don't think it's a problem, but it's definently more noticeable-due in part to a much quieter engine.



I think this 04. 5 has a 271 t-case wheras the '01 had a 241--I think. Just more stuff there to make noise.
