OK, How about an Automatic Transmission lottery...

5" Exhaust

I want to change the oil in my six speed after 40000 miles. The dealer says its not needed. What oil is OK besides the Mopar stuff the dealer sells. I have Amsoil 5-30 in my 91. Thanks

The dealer is full of... Lubed for life right? Ask em how long that life is and watch em start doing a tap dance

Change transmission, xfer case and diffs every 30,000

Change brake fluid and coolant every 2 years

Change engine oil every 5K

Your Ram will live long and prosper

Good thread, I walked away feeling that you need to use the Mopar stuff to be safe. Other lubes might work and might work better but they also "might" shorten the life of your 6 speed.

Go Redline

I have been doing mine at 30,000 mile intervals and believe me, it needed it! 30K was a stretch!

I have used:

Stock stuff. . . worked fair

Amsoil 5W30, worked good

Redline MTL, works GREAT!

I recommend the Redline MTL, also I understand Royal Purple sells a similar manual transmission lube for the 6-speed.

Vaughn, I'm assuming based on your change interval and the different lubes you have used for 30K mile change intervals that you now have between 90 - 120K miles on your 6 speed. What differences have you noticed using the different lubes? I would love to hear that someone has used the Amsoil or Redline MTL for 100K miles in their 6 speed with no problems. I think that would say something about the possible long range effect of using a none approved lube.
