this may sound dumb but when did they start putting in the g56 trannys? i've got an early 05 and was wondering what the break was.

NV5600 has reverse right and up.

G56 has reverse left and down.

Should be easy to tell which one you have.

or peek under the truck and look at the transmission... aluminum=g56, rusty iron=nv5600

I'm surprised you even know how to spell rust living in Tuscon. Even that aluminum transmission will rust down here in Gulf of Mexico :{

And how come JoeDonnely joined the month I did but has over 10 times more posts? Maybe I'm rustin' up too...

Yeah, if reverse is in the wrong place, its a G-56. I'm still not used to it. Strangely enough I have three pickups with manual transmissions, and all the rest are to the right and down for reverse. Damn this is going to be confusing. :(

Non painted dissipate heat better ??

Black painted iron = happy NV5600 :D

Non painted surface dissipate heat better

I believe a Non painted dissipate heat better than a painted transmission? Thought Radiators are painted black

Any one got the real facts or skinny on this.

As I was going to spray some Corrosion X on my brake line brackets (under the wheel well) where it is attached to the frame as I am on the coast an unpainted metal starts rusting away very soon. I don't think there is any down side to using Corrosion X except for its cost,
