The six speed in my 2-wheel drive just went out, and it was not low on fluid.

Do not know yet what the cause was.

Has anyone lost their manual trans? if so, what was the cause? I thought manual's were pretty much bullet proof, guess not. Oh yeah, the truck only has 164000 on it and we were on the Ohio Turnpike when it happened.

Thanks

Mine died @ 184k miles. I had been running amsoil in it and changed to a different brand synthetic. I had drained it and they were out of amsoil and I took the other brand. I'm not naming it as I don't want to start a brand war. When I pulled the old oil out, everything was beautiful, no metal in the oil or the bottom of the case or magnet. 4k miles later it was grinding going in every gear. Opened it up and metal everywhere. Chunks of gears broken off. The only thing I could come up with was switching brands. It shouldn't have mattered, but stranger things have happened! The 5600 did have an oiling problem that should be fixed on the new one. Plus they have you put in (I think) 7 qts instead of 4. Also, contrary to the owners manual, the oil should get changed. Most reccomend 25k to 50k miles.

Good luck,

Dave
