Six Speed Trans.

I would like to check the oli in my six speed trans. anyone know where the plug is on it to check it. ????



How much should i put in it ????

It should be on the driver side. As far as I know, you fill it until it come out. I think mine held about 3. 5 qts when I changed it.

I think I remember seeing that you are supposed to fill to 1/4" below the hole to keep fluid from being foamed up by gear action???

Mine used a 3/8 drive rachet, service manual actually says 4. 5L capacity.

Right from the service manual:



To drain the trans remove the bottom PTO cover

bolt. Fill the trans through the plug to the rear of the

PTO cover (Fig. 1). Dry fill is approximately 4. 5 liters

(9. 5 pints) or to the bottom edge of the fill plug hole.

I have the Fast Coolers on my NV5600 with 8 QT's of Pennsoil Sycromesh lube. That puts it above the fill hole. Now I drain and fill with the 1/4" npt plugs. I have notice no leaks or shifting problems.

If you remove the PTO cover (instead of just a bolt), you will be able to drain almost all the old oil (using a manual pump and a small hose, or just a rag) and find the little square magnet that lies in there. Total job time, when being very fussy: 1hr 30 minutes.



Switching to Amsoil seemed to save me 10% on fuel. I only did 200 miles with it but will keep you posted on this surprising result.
