Had rear diff serviced at dealer. I think they forgot to put the washer back on. Fluid is running out of the fill hole and dripping onto cement. Not sure if they overfilled or forgot the washer. Thanks!! I am a long way from the dealer to take it back. Thanks!

Oooo, not good. Any way you look at it you're going to have to wait until it leaks down below the fill plug, since you'll have to pull it to repair it anyway.

If it were me, I'd go buy a square of make-your-own gasket material from the plumbing department at Lowe's. Then, when the fluid leaks down to below the fill hole, I'd pull the plug and cut myself a new gasket to fit around the plug. Reinsert the plug and you're done.

If you don't have a drain pan, get out a jack and jack up the rear of the truck so that the fluid level moves away from the fill plug. Or drive the truck to a decline to put the rear end up in the air.

If you have a digital camera, take a picture so you can show the dealer the mess he caused.

If you could get the washer and then park the truck on a steep hill or ramps, you should be able to remove the fill plug and install the washer.

Thanks guys. . when I pulled the plug the fluid level was PERFECT and right on the fill line as it should be!! I called 3 different dealers and they all said that the fill plug does NOT have a washer... . yea right... anyway, I took a piece of cardboard. . about the same thickness as the origional washer and form fitted it, screwed back in and drove 30 miles... dry as a bone!! THanks! Yes, my dealer reads this... . YOUR TECH SCREWED UP!!! :)

washer

Having replaced my rear diff cover with a Mag-Hytec, I just went down to the garage and pulled the washer off the original. It is milky plastic with what appears to be a film of black paint around the outside.

Overall is is . 080" thick with an internal diameter of . 766" and an outside diameter of 1. 205 with the aforementioned black ?paint?...
