How do you insert the smiley faces in the text of the message??

Anyone running windows has a program called paint. You can size pictures in there. Pretty easy too.

Click START - PROGRAMS - ACCESORIES - PAINT.

Once inside the Paint program open the file you want to size and then go to EDIT. Press select all. The go to IMAGE and select ATTRIBUTES. You can size it from there. You can also drag the corners to size pictures.

It is a pretty straight forward program. I just played with it a while to size for an AVATAR and the attached pic.

Good Luck

BWB, paint work's well.

I have also used Microsoft's Photo Editor. I don't remember exactly, but it comes with Win98SE or Internet Explorer service pak.

When resizing remember to select pixel for the units.

My problem is that my wife takes pictures with her digital camera set on the highest resolution. This produces pictures approaching 1MB in file size. My question is - how can I get one of these existing pictures below the 102KB or so limit that we can insert into a post?

If it is saved as a JPEG, you should have an option for quality when it is saved. The lower the quality your willing to use, the more the file can be compressed. Also cropping pictures to remove any background you don't need and resizing to change picture sizes.
