Sky and EMD - Spring? Installed yet?

You did, but the package I used to send them to Sky and EMD I couldn't send the wire. I figured wouldn't be a big deal to pick up a lil baling wire or something of that nature.

Having just installed my gauges and EZ I have been following these threads. Raed all the past ones I could find. I like the idea of slowing the wategate down rather than disabling it. I thought instead of wire why not tension the spring with a turnbuckle?



Not much room to work. Had to use an ess hook to get the turnbuckle out far enough to do adjustments. It seems to be working fine. No road test yet as I was hoping someone could tell me about how far to pretension the spring? I bought the ones from Home Depot that Stakeman mentioned in his thread. I. E. 3/4 by short, heaviest duty they had.



Right now it's about doubled in length. Turnbuckle ran tight by then. Is that enough? If not I'll have to get a shorter turnbuckle. Problem is they get weaker as they get shorter. Anyway I respect all the opinions on here. Let me know what you think.



By the way it will come off really easy. Going on was a B*t*h! Once I finally made all the components into a chain so to say it worked easier.

Mine is stretched to about 2 to 2. 5 inches, but that gets me 32 psi boost.

A spring and a turnbuckle - the best of both worlds... easy on, easy off, and easy adjustment... great idea!

Road test.....

Must have gotten it tight enough



Boost now maxed at 30 lbs. WOT up a 7% grade with truck at 10,500 GVW



EGT's dropped 100 Deg. now maxing at 1150 seem to be better across the board.



Turbo whines it's little butt off Pitch seems to be a little shriller, I suppose that's normal though.



I now officially have been bitten by the bug

For anyone interested... .

Parts: 1&1/2" S hook, 3/16 x 5&1/2 turnbuckle, 3/4" x 2" spring

Turnbuckle was eye/eye and the I bent the hook and spring to chain them. Lock nut the normal thread end of the turnbuckle. Has to be attached at the bottom of the acuator mount (slips off the top) that's what made it more difficult. Sorry no digital cam yet but will try and get a friend to take some pics.
