Fighter Jet Crash...

Hah! I've done the Fly-Away in Pigeon Forge, TN. It was a blast... . but that was 12 years ago.

I bet I'd break something now :)

Jump out of a perfectly good airplane? You have got to be kidding. I almost lost my arm when I fell off my mountain bike. :)

bmoeller,

Pretty Cool! There is an airport in Southern Illinois (said with the "s" on the end) that offers tandem jumps and solo jumps. For my uncles 70th (not a typo!) birthday his kids gave him a tandem jump. For a little extra dough a 2nd diver will follow you out the plane with a helmet cam which they also ponied up for. It is a cool video! Considering my uncle has no arms from a farming accident in the '60's it was quite a feat.

I will do that one of these days!

Uh, guys, did you go to the link I posted? No plane involved, hence the parentheses in the title of the thread... .

It is like a vertical wind tunnel machine that lifts you up.

Indeed, I did go to the link. At Fly-Away I donned a loose fitting "jump suit" which had sleeves and pantlegs that filled with air.

Arch your back, push down with your arms and legs, and up you go! There were staff members playing around in the chamber when we showed up... some of them were awesome, performing flips and spins, etc. There was also a guy in a "control room" that varied the speed of the fan for you. If he saw you coming down, he'd turn it up, and vice versa. For the staff members, it was on haul butt the whole time.

I have taken off in an airplane five times more than I have landed in one.....

USAF gave me the chance to earn my jump wings-- first jump is solo freefall!! Only place in the world where your first jump is solo freefall-- USAF Academy:)
