Competition anybody pulling fri. nite @ Shippensburg Pa?

How did you guy's do the rear? I went with the add a leaf and the angle shim and have a drive line vibration. How is yours set up?

I have the replacement leafs with the shims. But it still has a slight amount of vibration. However, I think I need to add a spacer to the drive shaft.

I only have the 2 1/2" Skyjacker kit, and I didn't do anything to my rear springs.

However, I can tell you of at least 2 members who do have the 4 1/2" SK lift on their long bed trucks - csutton7 (Chris Sutton) and Beast2B (Galen Porter). Dane might also have the 4 1/2" kit, but I think he has the 2 1/2" same as my truck... .

Try sending them a PM if they don't see this and respond.

I know a few members have said they went with all new rear springs packs from National Spring company, though I personally don't know anything about that outfit.

Dbook,

I have the 4,5" lift and shimmed down the driveshaft 1". Went to a local steel shop and got 2 pieces of steel 2" by 10" or so with a thickness of 1 inch. marked out the two holes on each one and then installed. that should take care of your vibration problem also known as driveshaft whip.

Steve, are you saying that you dropped the carrier bearing down? I did this to an old '77 GMC that had some huge driveline problems, and it cured most of them.

Hillcountry,

Yes thats what I meant. On extended cabs the rear driveshaft is 2 pieces hanging on a CV joint as opposed to 1 solid driveshaft on the reg. cab. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know why Skyjacker doesn't include it in the Kit. I paid like 2200. 00 for my class 2 double flex with new set of rear leafs and had to end up going to a spring shop to have them arched more and add 2 more leafs which also means I needed new U bolts so I changed them out to 5/8 HD ones for 500$ more:mad:

Thanks Steve, that's what I thought. I've been thinking about doing this to my truck, but have'nt made time to see if it really needs it. The rear is only an inch or two higher than stock, so the angles may not be that bad.

On my old GMC it was so bad that when you would start letting out on the clutch, the driveshaft would hump up at the carrier bearing.

I also had the vibration after the lift. I went to a driveline shop and they said they just put a bar of 1" square tubing to drop the driveline. They even made it up for me for free, except the two bolt holes. I put it in in about 15 minutes and it fixed the problem. The shop has earned my future business. When I find someone to swap gears with me, I will use this shop if possible.
