Any skydivers in the TDR?
Past or Present.
Military or other.
If so please list your number of jumps, status,DZ(drop zone)and type of plane.
For the non-jumping crowd I'll say this skydiving got a bad name when it first got going(sort of like the g. m. diesels)but now everything is SAFETY. On a percentage scale more people die driving a vehicle than do skydiving, thats per number of jumps compared to number of drives. If you want I'll post the web site that gives all the facts.
This sport gives a total maximum adrenaline charge. I really don't even remember my first three times I let go of the strut that is until the canopy opened. www.skydiveopelika.com
Thanks Tim

Never jumped but it's something I want to do before I depart this world. I will have to keep it secret from my wife, though.

What's the maximum altitude you have jumped from?

Thanks for the reply ZZ.
Rad. My highest jump so far is 8K feet.
Oxygen runs out when you get over 15,000 feet. I am still on student status.
We pull at 3500'. That will give you about a 30 second fall. Also on a safety note our rigs have a FXC that will automaticly pull your reserve if you don't pull in time. Believe me they work. I have witnessed guys that did not pay attention to ther altimeter that fell to low and got to ride the reserve canopoy.
Rad if your only going to do it once,go for tandem with video. Otherwise go into a student program. Check out www.uspa.org to find a DZ in your area.
Also you reach 120 miles per hour after falling 10 seconds. What a rush!!!!!
Good luck Tim

I'm one of those "do it before you die" crowd. Jumped once from 5k(?) static line. Cost $75. Trained in the AM and jumped in the afternoon. It was easy once I let go #ad

Bungee jumped 3 times - fun too! I agree with the above. If you do it for the experience, tandem jump (tied to instructor) you get to free fall!

Pat

$75 to jump from an airplane. I think I will pass. I admire the guys that do it though. Not running you hobby down just my opinion. I realize it is necessary in military training.

75% of the crowd at our drop-zone are Rangers from Ft. Benning. When the weather is bad we get to hear some very interesting storys.
I don't know about the other DZ's but I was amazed at how much respect the jumpers have for each other. Sure someone will catch an elbow or foot in the mouth while in freefall doing points. They sometimes will land a little unhappy . The more experence you have the more fun you are to others when doing points (docking).
Our cost If you own your gear. $1 per one thousand feet+$2. 10000 feet is $12.

skydiver,
my lowest jump was approx 400'
now THAT is a rush, 180 knots to zero.

You might know this man. Pete Culbreath. 1 day I was going up to do a 5500 foot exit and Pete said "let me get out at 2500 feet"I said "why are you getting out so low,we are supposed to pull at 3500". Pete said"That ain't low man. I've jumped out at 500 feet"I said"why" Pete said "I had to they were shooting at us'. Anyway he also went to Panama .
Pete is a about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches medium to small build brown hair. He said he hurt his ankle or wrist on that jump.
Tell me if you knew him.
