I just installed shocks on my truck, figured I'd post up my findings...
I installed the SkyJackers about 100k ago, and only recently could I actually tell they were getting worn. I found three of the four still operating somewhat normally (still had pressure). However, the two fronts compressed at slightly different rates by hand, and one of the rears was completely depressurized (but still functioning as a damper). These shocks really tamed my truck down when first installed... and they have around 25k of a slide-in camper on them, so I don't feel bad about their condition at 100k. When compared to the OE shocks, it was a completely different truck when the slide-in was installed... these took all of the ticktock out of the ride. I'm fairly confident the camper hauling is what probably hurt these the most, because of the weight and high center of gravity. For their price, I find them a pretty good value, I believe I paid $40/each several years ago... my only bit of advise, don't waste the money on the shock boots.
I decided to try something different since I had installed KYBs on my car with really good results, I decided to try the KYB monotubes on my truck. They are smaller because they are a monotube (the SJs were twintube). The ride is vastly improved over my 100k SJs, and is not harsh at all... took all the jarring out. I'm very happy with the initial impression, we shall see how they hold up. I believe these ran me around $45/each.
I would recommend either one of these for a middle-of-the-road shock that perform well and are not as costly as the higher end stuff.
