With diesel around here getting very close to $4. 00/gallon I thought I'd see how others around the globe are faring. One interesting note in the Chinese story below is the comment by the government to refineries "increase crude imports at any cost"

prices are hovering around 3. 25... . ! ouch Man i can remember last week in austin i found diesel at a walmart i-35 and 71 for 2. 99. half atank down i jumped on it like a tick on benji. #@$%!

Just paid $3. 63, same as high test. Last week it was $. 10 more than high test. It fluctuates around here almost daily, and with no apparent tie to gas prices which move more slowly. Thank god its a business expense!

Just filled up in Jasper, IN (SW IN) at 3. 31. The guy filling next to me about died, he's only getting 14 on his 2006 DuraMax.

Only good news my employer pays 48. 5 a mile.

There is growing concern and confusion as to why the overall US economy is staggering in nearly all sectors...



Seems the "experts" simply can't comprehend - or are in denial - that the cost of energy has tremendous impact upon all aspects of daily living. Energy, both in electricity, and various fossil-derived forms, is the basic foundation block of pretty much everything we do.



Farming, as well as obtaining and delivering and processing a wide variety of commodities and raw materials rely of economical cost of transportation and processing - increase that cost dramatically, and pretty much EVERYTHING we touch suffers!



Vehicle and various industrial, farming and processing fuel costs control to a great extent where we will travel, live, and plant in crops - those in turn determine economies of communities, industries, employment and availability of workforce - virtually the whole spectrum of what we eat, build, buy or drive, and where we will live, travel and support as we pass by either as local consumers, or as vacationing travelers, is controlled by the availability and expense of the energy involved.



Damage or seriously destabilize the foundation of a structure, and the WHOLE STRUCTURE is weakened and threatened with failure. . .



And our economy "experts", as well as those in government, just don't seem to "get it" yet!

AND, it's reasonable to ask WHY our own domestic prices have risen so radically, while in the same time frame, European fuel has only increased about 13% (Switzerland) - how would YOU like to see your current fuel cost held to only a 13% increase above a year or so ago?

I think a lot of has to do with perspective Gary, everyone is so used to seeing and thinking the economic impact hits the consumer at the gasoline pump, but the economic engine is actually affected by prices at the diesel pump. Like you say every aspect of life is intricately supported by diesel fuel, whereas gasoline doesn't do much but get folks from Point A to Point B by car.

Diesel is at $3. 47/gal. near downtown Ft worth. Filled up with B20 this morning and had to pay $3. 29/gal. Little cheaper but still hurt.

Ha! You guys with the cheap 3. 29, 3. 25, 3. 47. Upstate NY has it as high as 3. 65. I paid about $110 last night for 28 or so gallons, for 495 miles of driving. You do the math. Shes gonna sit for a while. $4 might be a bargain come early 08. Even untaxed Kerosene is in the 3. 20-3. 30 range, so that aint even worth it either!

Most of you guys are fortunate you're not here. There is only ONE station in this area under $3. 79. Lots of stations in Washington in the $3. 90s : http://www.washingtongasprices.com/index.aspx?fuel=D



I think many local stations are jumping on the gouging bandwagon, because they used to always be 10-15 cents less than the Pasco Flying J but now they are the same or higher.

Having lived in Oregon in 2001, it's a drive to any where. you have to stay diesel upped. running out of juice on mount hood ..... not an option. never got used to not pumping my own diesel!

I'll have to rethink our planned trip to Alaska next summer. Let's see, 11,000 mile round trip at 11 mpg.....



Maybe a trip to Taos and Red River, NM may be a better option.

Did anyone try to calculate the cost of diesel in china? Looks like it is around $2. 70/gal if I calculated right.

About 15 days ago in South China diesel fuel was non existant.

This was due to a price "CAP" on fuel, placed there by govt.

They had to lift the CAP on the prices to get the refiners to start

back up. In the mean time transportation of manufactured goods

stopped. And as the article mentioned in the first thread stated, the order

was put out to buy diesel at any cost. As a result there is no way

to tell just how high diesel may go. It's already $3. 30 per gal in Florida,

in fact in stations within 2 miles of where the huge tankers come

up the river and unload it.

Interestingly enough, Brazil just discovered a big find just off their

coast, but they also declare that they will not be sharing it. Probably

a new OPEC member in the making.

Yea I almost crapped my pants on the way home tonight. I havent put fuel in my truck in two weeks. When I dropped 60 bucks in the pig last it was 3. 19 a gallon. Tonight it was 3. 60 a gallon. WTF is going on with this price stuff. They think the economy was bad last xmas. Well this one will be full of disapointment here at my house. I wont even be able to afford the lump of coal. I think this year everyone will be getting a pile of dookie instead. :-laf

I wouldn't even consider investing in coal. After all, it's just another fuel source, and the price is sure to skyrocket. On the other hand, dookie produces methane, so it's price is sure to go up too. Face it, you can't win.

Nope, you can't win. Best thing to do is to slow down, take shorter trips and bite the bullet at the pump.

I just returned from the Big Island of Hawaii. On 11-11-07,diesel was $3. 93-$4. 00 a gallon. That's being shipped 3,000 miles. We're getting hosed here on the mainland.

$3. 39 last I looked but it may have changed since I looked last.
$3. 07 for our cheapest gas.
