Well as we have seen here recently the fuel prices have started to skyrocket again, mainly the diesel fuel. I see here where people post there current local fuel prices and get upset about the skyrocket prices, I agree it bothers me.

What I'm curious about is what actions are you taking to either conserve fuel, changing your driving habits, changing any plans as far as vacations go,car pooling, investing in a cheaper ride, the ones that can afford it.

In a way I feel lucky that my job is only 10 miles away from my home. Only have two vehicles at present Dodge CTD and wifes GMC Jimmy. Being down to only one income now (wife injured in a car wreck) if these fuel prices keep increasing most of my money will be concentrated on fuel alone. You guy's know how much it cost to fill up the tank (thinking off key at the moment, a $100. 00 bucks for 35 gallons of fuel, it could come to that or worse). The eating out will cease alot more, and vacations well that's something to dream about.

Also wondering how many people will say heck with the price's I'm going to have my fun just add it to the credit card and were on our way.

I have nothing against having fun at all, but I can't stand to be in debt myself.

As we all know we have to have fuel to make it back and fourth to work. So is there a breaking point for you.

Right now everything I drive and operate is diesel, the price of fuel sucks, plain and simple! I still look at it this way though, I travel from Pa to Fl at least once a year pulling a trailer and when I pulled with a gasser getting 9 mph vs pulling with a diesel at 14 mpg, I'm still looking at saving money in fuel. It will be interesting this trip with almost 24000 mi on the truck now and a few mods to see what I get. The higher fuel prices will probably have a different affect when I tow the boat this summer. I'm looking at 90 gal tank of fuel on the boat which gets . 05 mpg, maybe . 08 mpg if I'm not stomping it, then you still have to fuel the truck. It does put a damper on the having fun part! I guess the bike will see more action at 45 mpg this summer if the prices get out of hand. You have to prioritize your toy's I guess! ;) Myself I don't like to use the credit card except for the air miles you can get, just don't let it get outta hand! Work hard to play hard ain't going to get any better than it is!

Alright, another boater. My feeling is that even with these fuel prices, which will be another $. 30 or so higher on the water, fuel is still the cheapest part of boating.

I am running a 34 ft single diesel Mainship trawler, an oldie that I repowered 5 years ago with a Cummins 6bta 270 hp. It's not a speed demon, but I can get 3 mpg if I take it slow (8 knots) or 2 mpg at about 11/12 knots.

I won't be taking a long trip this summer, but not because of the fuel prices... I'll just do more local stuff. Still plan on getting it out of the slip every weekend, weather permitting.

We probably will drive the wife's Jetta TDI to the boat on weekends more than we have in the past (90 miles each way) to save some fuel.
