Competition EGT while racing

for a pull this coming Saturday.

My friend wants to hook his '95 3500 with ATS auto, 4x4, 370's, #8, 4kGSk, 16*, wastegate disabled.

Should we...

1. Pull the plate out completely?

2. Slide it all the way forward?

3. AFC all the way forward?

4. Other ideas?

Currently builds 38psi max with plate halfway and afc all back.

Load me up!

Look at my Signature I pulled the other weekend. Keep in mind that the track was way soft and I think that if it was a harder track then I would have wanted to pull it the way I did.

I pulled in 2nd low 4X4. If I was to do it again I would have pulled in 3rd low. This is the first time I have pulled. I took the fuel plate out for the pull. I looked down at the egt gauge and it never hit 1600! I don't know what kind of boost It was getting. If I was you I would pull the plate and run the afc housing all the way forward. But with that said I would also be ready to buy some parts. If you do that you are going to get more boost and your turbo may not like that. I was told to only build like 2-3 lbs of boost before leaving. If you have billet input shaft then I would build a little more then that. I think that was one of the problems with my pull I never got going that good at the start should have sat there and built more boost before leaving. When I left the line the rpms went past 4000 and I just backed it off to 3400 and held it here till the sled stopped me. I had enough power to go in a higher gear but was afraid of breaking something, like and output shaft. Just be ready for someone to pull you home. If it starts to bounce then you better stop before stuff starts to hit the ground.

Redbadge,

Is your buddy going to pull the street or open class?

I'd weigh in as close to 8000 as possible. If the transmission doesn't have billet shafts, I'd be careful about lockup shifts. It sounds like a lot of trucks are going to show. I'll look for you there, I'm from Lawrenceville, my plates are 59Dsul. Have a good one,

andy

Tape over the pyro!

I run my RS9000's on level 5 and drop tire pressure to 30 PSI.

Weigh as close to the class limit as possible.

Keep the RPM's up, and the tires at the absolute limit of traction. If you drop into the meat of the torque curve, and hooh up hard, things will come apart!

I'd leave the plate where it is at.

One bounce, Back off

Two Bounce, your out of luck

Three bounces, your BROKE

Dsul,

Gonna try the street class. His truck is burgandy/silver with black flatbed and "Kinetico" decals on doors and little orange bubble gum machine on top.

what kinda clutch do you have?

I toasted my TST 13" button in the one pass I made last year. Vowed never to hook to another sled unless I could afford a Dual Disk. :(

On the Auto trannies,, (asking for myself)

How about, 4 Low, start in 1st, then shift to 2nd at the same time while locking up the TCC, or, to keep breakage down, just don't lock the TCC?

I'm going to be able to spin the hell out of the motor, so RPM isn't the issue. Should I be able to go to 3rd Low (direct) ?

I'll be pullingwith 285/75 Cooper Discovery SS/T's (the one with tread blocks that look like "Y's"

What MPH is 3rd gear, low range (locked TCC) at 4,500RPM?

Merrick

MPH =

______(RPM)*(Tire dia. in inches)_____

(336)*(axle ratio)*(gear ratio)*(tcase ratio)

For example

MPH =

___(5000)*(32)___

(336)*(4. 1)*(1)*(2. 72)

= 42. 7 mph

in an auto with 4. 10's pulling third gear low range at 5k rpm.

Hope that helps.

Guess I should also note that in the post above, to be completely accurate, the diameter in inches should really be more accurately termed twice the rolling radius, in inches. This will account for tire squat, airing down tires, etc.

last year, when my 95 was an auto i came off of the line in 1st gear and then locked up the tcc before i shifted to 2nd. held it in 2nf until it spun out. works a hell of a lot better than un locked. just make sure you put it in neutral or turn the switch off be fore you stop. you could probably try drive once or twice depending on the track. but mine never did any good in drive. wanted to kick right back into 2nd un locked. just mho, nick

I think that's the plan.

I will spool-up and start in 1st gear. I'm still deciding to lock up in 1st, then do a 1-2 locked shift (which isn't harsh) or do a 1-2 then lock.

I think I'm sticking to 2nd gear, and just wind it out. I have 3. 54 gears, and I will be able to turn 4,500RPM, so wheelspeed seems to be taken care of.

I want ot be sure to spin out at the end, and not lug down. With the HP I currently have, I think I should be ok.

Merrick,

Let the trans shift into 3rd (low lock) & if you have a tight converter there is no need to lock it up. 2nd is just to slow & you wont get any ground speed.

Kurt

You have to have some pretty good power to run 3rd & this depends on tire size & gearing. If you dont have power you better stay in 2nd.
