i want to try some pulling, and want to up-grade the Dana 70, what is the best bang for the buck? i only want to do it once, but i don't need to go over board either, i may pull 3-4 times a year. and i am setting around 550-600 hp

Thanks

Scott

what year of truck should i look for?

any year 2500 with a manual trans?

should i get the drive shaft also? i hear i would have to cut mine down to make it work

Thanks

Scott

I think you need the drive shaft too. The pinion is longer.

Any 2nd gen truck should work if it is from a 2500. and the same cab /bed configuration.

You can either have your drive shaft shortened, or get the drive shaft from the truck that came with the 80 as long as it is the same wheelbase as your truck. I upgraded both the 80 and my transfer case I got a driveshaft for $200 shipped, where I would have had $80 each modifying each end of my current shaft. Expect to pay $500-1000 for an 80. $600-800 is pretty much the going rate. 94-2001 should work if you have drum brakes. I have a friend who bought a disk brake rear end with no calibers, he was able to fit the backing plates to the disk rear end pretty easily.

Thanks for the Info guys!!!

i am going to look for a Dana 80 and drive shaft, anything else i should be looing at maybe a T-case?
