Just Purchased My First 5th Wheel

Anyone have a good design on a sleeper cab that goes over the bed? I'm wanting to put one on the 04. 5, approx 42" deep, that goes over the bed rails and allows for an extra fuel tank. I'm going to do the fab work. Sleeping on the back seat sucks:D

If this is relative to your business, I think it's against DOT regs but I can't recall where the specifics are. I can't help with a sleeper source but 393. 76 has the specs that a sleeper needs to meet (if in fact it is for commercial use).

I am in the same boat, or truck, so to speak. I am also looking for one. I found one cheap but it does not go very deep into the bed. Could buy it and extend it toward the bottom of the bed. Not sure. Will probably wait and find one that fits my needs.

Nothing that requires frame splicing. My wife would stroke out if I showed up with that.

QRTRHRS, yes it is- that's why I want to go with the sleeper instead.

I can't believe how much coin those are!

TX Gooseneck,

You might consider looking for a used class 7 or 8 truck to use for the business. 600k mile rigs can be had for relatively cheap and if maintained, will easily pull a stack of trailers. An "expediter" rig with the condo sleeper would work nicely. Just sell off the box, shorten the frame and add a fifth wheel/gooseneck.

We've thought about it and at some point will have to make the move, but right now deliveries are split between myself and my dad, unless by chance we hire it out. Driving a rig empty can be a chore.

I'd have to have my CDL for sure if I purchased one of those :)

Granted my solution is somewhat extreme. Pretty much makes a truck useless for anything but road work. I've seen other haulers with a sleeper that fits in the bed, behind the cab. Might be more what you're looking for. I think the brand was Cowboy Campers, if I remember right, they were located in Broken Arrow, OK. I've seen haulers that use it and get by fine. It does cut down how far you can jack the truck when hooked to a 5er. But with caution I think it would work fine. I couldn't find Cowboy Campers on the web anymore, maybe they bit the dust. Here's another that might work for you.
