Any opinions on this stuff welcome please. Seems legit... PTFE and all. Use to run in other vehicles, wondering if it really helps with friction??

Some people are getting close to a million miles out of these engines with regular oil and filter changes. I don't know what slick 50 can do to improve that. I stay away from most additives, except for fuel, to lower the gel point and add lubricity.

Just my opinion.

When I use to work for citgo we made the base oil for slick 50. A simple 30 weight. Then we would ship it over to gold eagle and they would add their additives. As far as how well it works I used it in my 91 Dakota (5. 2l) and when I sold it 3 years ago it had 285,000 miles on it. That truck is still running and being used by a landscape company. I never had any engine trouble. But then again I always changed the oil (never syn oil). I did get the stuff for free and I used it at 40,000 and 150,000 miles.

It's junk. Do not put it on your Cummins or any other vehicle you own.

I wholeheartedly agree. Dupont itself has come out (following a rash of lawsuits against Slick 50) and specifically stated that PTFE is absolutely inappropriate for use in an internal combustion engine. Think about it: why in the world would you want to put solid particles in suspension in your oil when we all go to so much trouble to keep junk out! There is absolutely NO WAY PTFE particles could get in your bearings and help them in any way whatsoever. And PTFE doesn't have anywhere near the lubricating properties of oil, so every piece of Teflon in there is displacing useful oil. PTFE is "self lubricating" because as shear loads are applied to it it sheds layers of itself. Personally, I don't want my oil filter, oil passages, and piston cooling nozzles being clogged up by PTFE particles. I don't care how many people used it and their engines with good luck... I'd never deliberately put any solid particle in my engine.

Just find as good Synthetic motor oil. why add extra to your oil changing cost. It is a proven fact that sythetic coats all parts and has a clinings better for cold start ups. Course, its your engine and your money, spend it wisely.

just my penny's worth.

I change my oil every 3000 miles and new filter also. I use Rotell 15w40 and no problems.

I put slick 50 in a 77 chevy 4x4 with a 454 and around 100,000 miles, also in my wifes first car a 1980 olds with a v6 sold it at 129,000. I don't own either anymore,(sold both in 96) but both are still in town and still running.

I got 2 pair of heads from 6. 5 chevy diesels from Team Chevrolet in Colorado springs some years back. They came off of two trucks sold to a towing company that put Slick 50 in them shortly after purchase - both lost bearings within 20K miles.

It's been a long time ago, but I had Slick-50 put in at a Jiffy-Lube or some like place, and a couple of years later, got legal papers and some money,(not much) on some class-action suit or something...

Sorry so vague, been a while...
