Does anyone have or know about the slidding bed covers (they roll up out of the way and are fairly water proof) that are out? I need to carry things out of the weather sometime, but still want to use my bed for hauling! I don't want a cover! I am looking for one, but don't know much about them! Any info. on quality or price would be great!!!

A friend of mine has one on his ch#$y. He hates it. It cost him over $1200 for the manual version (apparently there are electric versions) and he told me that he has regretted the purchase from day one. His complaints are:
It rattles on roads that are less than smooth.
It sticks constantly, causing him to have to have to get in the bed and yank it open or shove it hard to open it.
Finally, he also complains that it leaks.

Some notes that must be taken into consideration: He IS in construction and beats the he** out of his truck. I know that he's gone through 1 transfer case and 2 trannys in the 3 years he has owned the truck.

I was considering one of these covers as well on my truck, but I will probably go with a hard tonneau. They're not that difficult to remove with two people.

Hope this helps.

I use a foldable hard cover on mine. It's easy for one person to remove or replace. It does leak a little at the joints, but not bad. One thing that I like is that it is strong enuff to walk on. Jumping up and down is probably not a good idea with my 200 lb carcas but walking around is ok. When it's folded up it takes about as much room at the front of the bed as a tool box.

Peep,I have had both the remote rollup tonneau and the manual rollup tonneau covers from to different manufactures and if your looking in that direction might I suggest Roll-Top tonneau from Pace-Edwards 1-800-400-2806 it's not 100% water-tite but pretty darn close.

Peep, I have a Pace Edwards Roll Top Cover on my '98 3500. It fits and operates just fine. If adjusted properly during installation, it will work as advertised. It covers my fifth wheel hitch and provides secure weather tight bed storage for tools, etc. My only negative comment is that it flexes in the center slightly up and down from the airflow over the top of the truck. It causes a rattling noise that is very noticeable with your back slider window open. The frequency of the rattle is in direct proportion to the speed of the truck. Overall, a good quality product - on my list of recommended Good Stuff.

There is a Pace roll top up the street from me on a mid 90's long bed. The black vynal cover is lifting off the substrate. It looks terrible. #ad
