Did you by a used or new truck without the prep? I added the for pucks myself. If I was going to add gooseneck it would be a B&W.

Sorry, yes I should have included this info from the start. I bought a gently used 14 3500 SRW without the prep.

Had to go get one :D

I looked hard at new trucks but in the end I couldn't justify the payment. Between rental property and our orchard we've been working on a large purchase wasn't in the cards. So with the money I put down and the money I just got from my 98 I have a very manageable payment for two years and I'll be done.
She'll do for now :D

Is it Brown? 68RFE or Aisin? Bighorn or Tradesman?

You are going to love it! Freeway cruise with 3.42 gears.

i have an auto slider, it's worth the piece of mind. there have been a few times it's saved me.
as for the making sure you are straight on for unhooking or hooking back up, the auto sliders have what's called a capture plate, i just take it off the trailer, hook up and pay attention to get it straightened out, then replace the plate. take all of a few minutes.

i have the Pullrite superglide. i even use this hitch with my long bed truck, only no capture plate and i pin the hitch forward.

Black/Tradesmen and 68. I looked within a 300 mile radius and couldn't find one SRW with the Aisin Which is why I initially was going to buy new. This one ended up being within 20 miles of me and the price was right at $4500 under book value. Owner had to sell for "personal reasons", judging by the paint in the receiver he never towed with it, always garaged, like an overweight fair weather sports car :-laf

And yes, I love it. Should have made the jump sooner. Even with the mods I have on the 98 it don't hold a candle to this one.

Killer how is your hitch mounted? There seems to be alot of good hitches in the market but my options are somewhat limited, I'd like to stay with either the factory puck or a turnover/companion set up.

The only way I can even use my current hitch is if I use the rails in the bed again which I've hated from day one. I picked the hitch up second hand for cheap but I just can't bring myself to use the rails again. So I figure if I'm gonna buy a hitch I may as well spring for the extra and get a slider. It's just not something I want to regret, if I don't use it I don't use it...at least it's there.
So that leads me to my next query of either buying the factory prep package or using a B&W turnover. I use a gooseneck more than a 5th wheel so if I go the factory prep route I have to buy both which makes it a wash in price compared to a B&W turnover kit. As it is I'm leaning toward the factory puck set up but still looking.
Too many decisions! Appreciate the feedback and suggestions from all, please keep them coming! There is certainly a wealth of knowledge here regarding this subject.

I would look at the PULRite SuperLite 20K hitch. This might work for you.

it's the older school system, but they have the newer system that will work with your pucks,
Mine the 4 posts come out of the bed for a flat bed floor again. just have 4 holes in the bed.
My hitch is heavy, the newer ones arn't as bad. but i still love mine. i've used it from my 02 short bet, 04 long bed, and now my 08 mega, it's a great hitch, http://pullrite.com/products/super-glide-short-box-5th-wheel-towing/superglide-20k

is mine. i got it used from CL for 500$, all i had to do was buy the frame brackets, and 45 min install later i was ready to tow.

Do you already have a camper?

The front cap on my 42 footer is rounded. I find that I don't need a slider with this camper.
Forest River 368RLBHK.

Yes sir, also a Forest River but an older model with a flat nose.

Leaning heavy toward the B&W RVK3400.

Well, I was literally 4 hours away from ordering this very hitch through my local RV dealer for $1300 when I found one on CL for sale. Jumped in the truck after work, headed over to Union City, PA, and 2 hours later I was headed home with a like new RVK3400 Companion for $450. I think a few scratches is well worth the $900 I just saved.....:D

I think I've got my Husky 24k hitch sold for $300 this weekend, so I'm only into this one $150. Should have the GN mount toward the first of the week. Just in time to haul the machines down to West Virginia for a week of wheelin.

Excellent!!!

Once in a while Craigslist does pay off for sure....

CL no doubt has it's share of scammers. I learned my lesson and will only deal with people I can talk to on the phone before meeting with them. Makes it much easier to feel them out.
