I have a 230/605 #12. The installation template fixed the plate in a 'stock' location. Can the plate be slid forward? If so, how much... and measured how? Any dangers? Thank you gentlemen!

BCFAST,

According to Mark @ TST, those of us who have the 96 & 97 5 speed pumps are lucky. This version of the pump was only made for these 2 years & are more responsive to plate position than any other. #ad
Mark said that sliding the plate all the way forward is good for 40 to 60 more HP. From dyno results I've seen posted, it's closer to 60hp. The only problem I've heard of is if the part of the rack that indexes on the plate is set too low, that part may actually get caught up below the plate. I've never seen a post to that affect, but it could happen.

It doesn't look like anything gets harmed, even if it hangs up. It sure didn't hang up on mine. #ad

Try it out. If it hangs up, I'd guess you'd have a soggy or hardly any 'take off'. Other than higher EGT, I haven't read a post of anyone having any problems, other than HP addition. #ad

The only problem I had with the #11 plate all the way forward was it made my clutch slip. Bcfast if you don't already have them get some gauges before playing with the plate position.

TST offer 3 plates for the 215 hp, #12, 11, and 10. The differ greatly in the fueling curves up to around 2400 rpm, but not too much over there because the engine does not flow very well in stock trim over 2400 (i. e. without porting the head, HX40 turbo, etc. ). Remember the B was originally a 2300 rpm engine. When you slide the plate you increase fueling over the entire rpm range. When you trade in your #12 for an 11 or 10, you are increasing the fueling mostly below 2400 rpm, and the portion of the plate over that rpm increases fueling only a "safe" amount. In fact, the 10 requires the bigger turbine housing at a minumum (HX40 being even better) to keep egt's down.

Forrest,
You mentioned in your post that the 96 and 97 215hp engines had the best pumps and only those years (per Mark Chapple) Does the 98 12V have a different pump from the 96-97? It was my understanding they were the same, can someone help me out here? I am still looking for a 98 12V Quad Cab. No CTDs for sale in the papers here for past 6 months that I have been looking except for a 94 Reg. cab auto.

Koa Man,

Don't know the answer to that. I don't recall Mark mentioning it, but that doesn't mean it isn't. E-Mail. #ad
I'd bet Mark has tested plate sliding on the 98 pump with various plates, just to make sure there are no problems that will bite him later. As a designer of something put into the hands of BOMBers, he's probably considered the full range of the plate. #ad

If you study your plate & see just how deep the different 'stages' are, it's easy to understand how plate sliding increases HP. The farther the rack slides, the more the fuel. Moving the plate farther away from the rack means "YEE HA". Father Bosch gave us a freebie. #ad

Have the BD injectors in my 97', thats it no other mods to the motor. Which plate works good with these injector's? Not looking to go into swapping turbos. Have lost the cat and muffler. Any recommendations?
