Hi folks, Just wondering if any one have tried moving the #5 plate ( 230hp/605) all the way ahead? have you found the sweet spot?

Thanks,

What are your impresions of this move?

Heath

I just installed a #6, slid it all the way forward. Talked to Al at Piers he said forward = more power but higher exhaust temps.

There is also a risk of the Governor arm needing adjusted to ensure it reaches the plate, it is possible that it might go underneath:confused:

To the best of my understanding, the sweet spot is a relationship between max power and too much heat.

i have the #5 slid all the way forward after trying several different positions and it definately is the highest power spot. however the egts do get a little hotter. in stock position couldn't break 1200, now i hit 1400. also, i tightened my gov. springs two clicks to allow for a little more "go" room and this seemed to help.

i thought i read that the #5 had a 275hp output? i don't know.

in other words,, just slide that dude all the way forward and maybe you'll get an occasional 4th gear scratch as i do!!!

later, dusty

I slid the #5 forward and hit 380 RWHP. Also have injectors too though.

From what I read & hear when you slide the stronger plates all the way forward the rocker does not even hit the plate. In essence, you are running w/ no plate.

I am not 100% sure but I don't think the rocker ever gets off the AFC link? The arm only goes so far forward. The big 12V HP guys ( some, not all) take the AFC arm out on dyno day. Then you know the rocker will ride the plate.

I have Piers's AFC "Washer" installed. It is just a smaller washer that is under the rubber diaphram. This will give you a little more AFC link travel. About 1/16" more. You want to get the link fully forward and out of the way. This seems to get tougher to do as you run the deeper cut ( and start moving them forward) plates.

sorry about that, I ment the #6. Sounds good, I will try it. In the stock Position I dynoed 365 rwhp. ( maybe I do have the #5) I only ordered the #6. Oh well. :)

rampuller,

You have one heck of a truck ( read your sig) to dyno those numbers w/ a '95 auto 160 hp pump. .

Something sounds very wrong.
