Need advice or suggestions on sliding my TST 230/605 fuel plate. Mine was installed in the stock position with the template furnished by TST. I have since upgraded my auto transmission with all the DTT goodies and had Piers install 215 injectors while I was there. How far forward can or should I slide the plate for a little extra ponys since I now feel the transmission can hold it.

Thanks in advance

Dave Gardner:D

Slide it foward . 015 at a time till it smokes too much or the egts run too high. Another way is to slide it full forward then work your way backwards.

I have seen a few diesel injection shops make their "copys" of the TST plates. One of them said their 285/685 plate was a 230/605 plate slid forward . 030" I think that is about right as far as an increase accross the board goes. I think TST has different profiles on their 2 plates so that fuel shop could not have an exact "copy".

If you have the AFC kit with AFC springs and boost elbow, try the medium or light spring and . 030" forward on the plate. Back the star wheel all the way off and back the preload off the AFC diaphram. That will be best performance and most smoke, then trim from there.

I have the #11 plate in my 215hp set to stock position, and AFC adjusted as above, and there is very little smoke, really just a light haze while the turbo spools up. So you just need to experiment a little! thats the fun part:D :D

When I had my 11 plate, I slid it full forward, and then back a hair... . EGT's were ok, till I got the 191's! then we were through the roof! Now with my 10 plate, everything is good. . I can still mash the go pedal with my gooseneck and cook the EGT's to 1200° post turbo with no problems... Experiment with that plate till you either run out of travel and need a bigger plate, or find the niche on that one!

without the governor spring kit (yet) i can only hit 1100* with intake/exhaust mods and a ground stock plate (ground flat). i don't know how much higher they'll be with 215 injectors, but i doubt that the 160 pump with the plate slid forward would put the EGTs into the "danger" zone...

Excuse me but doesn't 1200 post convert to at least 1500 pre, well into the danger zone. I've always heard keep it under 950 post.

Dave, we have basically identical trucks, except I don't have the transmission:(

I slid my plate all the way forward and didn't see much of an improvement. I got a little more power. EGT's are not a problem for me, really pushing it through the gears will get me 1200 pre turbo. Pulling the trailer I seldom see over 1000. My only smoke control is my right foot, just a haze or solar eclipse, it's up to me. OK, maybe not a complete solar eclipse, but it sounds good;)

I understand what you're saying, but geographical location has a lot to do with it. Where I live it's not populated with tree huggers, I can do things without a single soul even seeing it but me. Maybe a few white tails or somebody's heifer maybe.
