 Hey there, I searched and found some close threads, but was just wondering about this slight noise ( If you want to call it that) while trans is in Neutral at Idle.

Not sure if it has just been there all the time or what. Usually I hold in the clutch, turn truck off. Rarely do I ever Idle with truck in Neutral. There is a slight, not sure how to describe it. . not a vibration, but a noise when truck is idling in Neutral. Usually only does it when warmed up.

As soon as I depress the clutch is stops. Got out of the truck while idling and looked under it, nothing you can hear from down there. Only in the cab. I've read about throw out bearings, etc... I wouldn't call it a "Growl" either. . just a little difference in Pitch when in Neutral Vs. Clutch in. Only 4,000 on the truck and trans shifts SMOOTH AS GLASS and I love it. . Just wondering if it part of the Breaking in of the G-56 thanks!!

I would like to add that if the radio is on, even low, it is ENOUGH to not be able to hear the noise. Needs to be dead quiet to really hear it... Oo.

Just to add, the noise sounds like the air blowing from the defroster when it's on LOW..... It's like you can turn your defroster off and on with the clutch...

When you come to a stop you should be putting the truck in neutral so the truck gets lube to importmant stuff inside the trans. it would also relieve pressure on the TOB that is put on it when you push in clutch.

I wish my g56 shifted smooth as glass!

It's pretty clunky, 3rd is the toughest.

Only has 1,800 miles on it.

Dealer says it needs to break in... ... ... ...

Mine was notchy into 1st and 2nd when I test drove it... . Loved it anyway... First thing I did was change out the Fluid for Fresh fluid ( Truck sat on the lot for a while) Been smooth as glass ever since... .

My G56 has over 42K miles and is only clunky when it's cold, though I wouldn't call it clunky. More at "stiff. " Shifts like a dream warm. I can "shift it like I'm mad at it" when it's warmed up a bit.

I did hear the noise again this morning, but it is so slight and only does it when really warmed up. Dealer would never drive it enough to really get a good listen. PLUS, I kind of like the sound... . Was thinking if it was happeneing on my 02 you would never hear it over the roar of that engine!!! These trucks are so quiet I think we hear more things!!! :D

NOt going to worry about it for now, Of course if it gets louder then I might take it in... I did lift the hood as it idled and you can hear it a little, just like in the cab. .

It might be the dual mass flywheel doing its job, a little "clutch rattle", the throwout bearing brushing against the clutch fingers, etc. etc.

I finally have a description for the slight noise..... it sounds like when you turn your vent onto the first lowest setting ( The fan). It's like you turning your defroster off with your clutch!! But really low, etc. . ANother TDR member told me to Engage the clutch in gears 1-4 and see if made a different noise. Tried it and it did not. . Same noise..... any other ideas??? I don't really want the trans torn down for such a small deal... .
