they told me that when they did everything they put the original head gasket back on.

If they admitted to this I would tear it back down and redo everything. That's crazy.

Yes, you can pull the head in the truck. A cherry picker works fine.

Yeah I thought that was very strange. The even more messed up thing is the guy who owns the shop is related to the guy I bought the truck from.

Not only what Wayne and the previous 10 posters said but I would also be suspect of anything else this "mechanic" touched.

My '14 Durango was in for warranty, and they advertised a cabin air filter change for $49. The tech I've been getting steadily seems ok so I thought I'd throw him a few tenths. I bought the job. Now I've been in there twice before and I date my filters. I'll go in myself in a few months. There better be a date other than 2015 in there if any. I hate thinking like this.......

I hear you. I had my truck in a couple days ago to replace both airbags under recall and left wondering...how do I know if they were replaced? I think that kind of nagging doubt is why most of us here prefer to do our own work when possible.

Does anyone have an tips or tricks on how to get the head off in the truck with head studs?
head out and leaving the studs? Not gonna happen. I believe the studs would have small Allens in the top of the stud to wind them out first after you get the nuts and washers off.
I don't know what your capability is, I always reccomend buying the factory manual (Tech authority) for your truck.

So I took the head off and there wasn't a defiant area where is would have blew. Everything that the shop said they did was not done. Replaced the head gasket and started putting it back together. Hopefully this fixes the issue.

I would have sent the head out and had it cleaned/ tested for leaks. How are the guides and such? You went this far.
