have 1998 3500 2wd auto that is slipping pretty badly in first gear. I have never had a transmission problem and am going to begin searching old posts, but would love to hear my options. I plan on driving this truck for many years and would like to fix it the right way. Would love to do the swap to manual but the price tag of around $10,000 is to hefty right now. Have not updated sig in a while truck has 80k.

A rebuilt performance transmission will be half of that 10k. I have 12k miles on mine with no regrets. Night and day difference over a stocker.

got estimate of 6000 for installed performance transmission. Is there something for alittle less? I have mo mods on truck and wish to tow #4000 landscape trailer on town roads only under 40mph than I also use it for personal driving.

Are you going to keep the truck stock? If so you may not need the $6000 full meal deal. Call and talk to all 3 of the transmission builders. Tell them what you've got and what you're going to do with it. I'm SURE you can get a new "upgraded" trans. that will be long lasting for less.

ToM!

Info??

wrichards , where are you located?? Help us help you by filling in your info and signature. There may be a trans shop near you that someone can recommend.

As for your trans. it is pretty hard to slip 1st gear and not 2nd, 3rd, and OD. The rear clutch is engaged in 1st and stays engaged in all the other gears as well. 1st gear puts the least strain on the rear clutch because of the lower ratio. Higher gears put more strain, so usually a trans slips in the higher gears first.

Are you sure it isn't the sloppy slushy stock Torque converter?

Pm me and I'll try to help diagnose the problem.
