Ok..... I had the transmission fluid changed and filter as well. I inspected the fluid and it was not burned. It looked normal. So when I drove 30 miles since I changed the transmission fluids and filter I still get a annoying slip. I can't describe it other than a slip. The transmission will try and change gears and it won't catch the next gear. So I have to let off and on the accelerator. Sometimes it cathes and sometimes it won't.

What the heck can I do to fix this? PLease note its a 98. I dont have the toold to do it myself. I just need to know if this is a known problem with Mopar transmission's I am beginning to believe that I'd be better off with a Allison transmission if that could happen:)

Ummm, not to state the obvious but...

You ARE checking the level with the trans warmed up and in neutral, right?

OK, thought so. Try overfilling it a little. Go on, it's OK. Try a half a quart. Better?

Seriously, you can over fill by a lot without causing any problems (other than spots on the driveway:eek:) If you have a leaky seal, 1 1/2 or so quarts will usually "cure" it without causing any problems.

Yes it is over filled a little bit but enoough. That was the first thing I checked. Its NOT leaking at all. It seems to be a internal problem.

Scary,

I'm no expert, but you should know that Chrysler trannies are known for being the weak link in our drive train.

I'm sure there are numerous possibilities for the cause of your slipping transmission, try getting a hold of Bill K. of Diesel Transmission Technologies. Bill is a TDR member and you can get his info by going to "links," and then transmissions. He's up in Canada, but if I'm not mistaken, there's a 1-800 number. When I had problems with my transmission he told me to call him personally (which, I did) to discuss troubleshooting and/or options. :)

Make sure they used the right fluid. Dexron will not work for Chrysler transmissions, it's not compatible withthe frictional material in the clutches. Make sure they used the Mopar type 7176 +3, or +4 fluids

Scary, what gear is the trans trying to shift to when it doesn't want to complete the shift? If it's third, you may have the dreaded undersized front clutch inner seal problem. The inner seal in the third clutch drum is undersized and after some miles will not seal to the piston. To fix it requires trans removal and going in and replacing the seal. Of course this would be a good time to treat yourself and your truck to the DTT treatment of a conv/vb. Where 'bouts do you live? How many miles on truck? After install of DTT, the big grin:D you see will be your own!:D

I live in Atlanta..... I have no idea what you mean by DTT:) I've got 64k miles on it. I think it could be the third gear. I don't know for sure. . How much does all that cost?

Scary: You aren't clear on if this problem started only after the fluid change. Give us more details. Were the bands adjusted? Exactly what fluid was used? And how much? Was the valve body loosened to remove more fluid?

This problem was pre-fluids change, and the bands were not touched. . because the dealer said, "everything is fine!" Go figure. I wasted time and money with them.

Scary, I'm referring to Diesel Transmission Technology. A short search will likely give you lots of good feedback on these products. I am an installer near Dallas and all applicable transmissions get this updated seal during the install as a preventative measure as it is a very common problem.
