What the symptoms of a sloppy torque convertor?

My trans was rebuilt a while back, before I bought it, and just a no name convertor was used.

When I'm pulling my Jeep on my 18ft car hauler it seems like I don't have much of a connection between the engine and the trans.

Like I can take off and hold the engine to 2000-2500rpms without a ton of throttle and the MPHs slowly come up.

If it was a 5 speed, I would say the clutch was slipping, cause that's what it feels like.

I don't really have the money to put a good transmission in the truck right now, so I'm hoping I don't break it towing. I try not to put too much power to the transmission when it's "slipping".

Nate, you just described a low pressure/ failing converter.

I band-aided mine with an after market VB & T/C. If you are a DIY kinda guy, it's a job but can be shade treed. The VB is the tricky part of the job. If I knew now what I did then I probably would have farmed out the VB conversion. A used VB could be hard to find on a weekend. Mike

I noticed the Smarty in your sig, welcome to the club of find the weak link :{

You will definately bake your stock slushbox with the torque limiter removed via smarty, but it is sooooo much fun while doing it. I am just finishing up installing an ATS setup in mine, it will be done tomorrow. You will need to beef things up if you want to play. I do love my Smarty.
