My door hinges need to be repaired or replaced. What's the best and/or most economical fix. A few tips on dooing it right wouldn't hurt either. They have seen too many miles off road or here in Saskatchewan on road is sometimes just as bad.

Im not sure if they come with them or not bust most vehicles have bushingsin the hinges, and you can replace the pins and bushings. thats usually what wears first

CToney,

I R&R the entire hinge. :D

I was able to get the hinge painted & clear coated in the garage before the wife brought her car back inside. :-{}

My theory is that its better to do it once rather than trying to rebuild the hinge. IMHO

Besides they look factory installed , again.

The drivers side is the easiest. just remove one at a time while holding up door with a floor jack & block of wood. the interior panel is where you go thru with much patience. But its worth it when it is done. :cool:

WAYNES WORLD

I made up two door supports with 2x4's and some carpet which made it extremely easy to replace the pins and bushings by myself. After removing the inner door panel I slid the supports under the door raising a 2x4 up to support both ends to the proper level. After disconnecting some of the wiring I unbolted just the door and slid it out far enough to access the pins which from the factory are peened over. After using a drill bit large enough to remove the rounded matl. I drove them out. I had ordered a kit on ebay which although was stated to work with my year was too small. my pins are 3/8"(. 375)make sure to check your pin size. I made my own using hardened pins and bronze bushings from TSC total cost abou$15. If I had to do it over I would use the pin/bushing kit that they carry at Pep boys in the help section(they were out of stock when I did the repair)as I had to tac weld the pins I used. Once the hinges were back together I hit them with some paint and slid the door back in which was still right in alignment with the hinge, no balancing act, cursing or anything. I could try to post a pic of the supports if you want.

Not to change the subject but I just looked at your seat resto Wayne. Looks great. Done by you or did you have someone do it? How much?
