so does anyone make a good slotted rotor for the front of our trucks? if so how much and what kind of pads do they run?

Thanks

Paul

I prefer cross-drilled to slotted. I think cross-drilled are supposed to be more durable than slotted. I am running Stillen rotors with their pads as well. Only have a little over 10K on them so I don't know how long they will last. Worlds better than stock. I bought them from Brake-Pros. They had a special of rotors, pads, and shipping for $280. 00. Money well spent.

Paul,

I have a friend of mine here in town who just replaced his Brakes with EGR Rotors.

He loves them but to answer your question. EGR did not recomend cross drilled for the fronts due to possible heat and cracking issues that may occur (towing heavy loads with no Exhuast brake I'm sure).

He got Slotted in the fronts and cross drilled in the rears. I believe he is using the ceramic pads that are available with the kit. He also is using the them with DOT 5. 1 (?) fluid and added the braided stainless lines.

If you want to see them let me know and I'll pass it along to him. He's right down the street.

I guess it depends what website you look at. I was told just the opposite about the cross-drilled vs. slotted. I guess everyone has their own opinions.

I installed drilled and slotted rotors from Autozone on my '99. I can't remember the brand but they were 'severe duty' and the difference was very obvious. The only down side is that the pads don't last as long, but with free replacements who cares? I had replaced my rotors with stock non-drilled ones and they warped within a month!! The drilled/slotted ones have been used pretty hard and show no signs of warping or cracking. They were definitely worth the $99 per side. I'm using the Performance Friction pads... they were $47 with lifetime exchange as long as you don't go metal to metal. The only fix I never came up with was for the crappy caliper slide design... the outside pad always wears first. I noticed my buddy's 01. 5 doesn't have that problem as it's a whole different brake assembly. Oh well, the 04. 5 brakes should be nice. :D

First off the myth about "Cross Drilled Rotors" cracking is just that a myth. It extends back to when people tried to cross drill their factory rotors, or some cheap replacement rotor. It you but any new HD truck rotor they will not crack, they are built much tougher then the OEM, have internal cooling vanes, and will out last anything stock by a wide margin.

There are plenty of manufacturers today that make very good replacement rotors, these not only bolt right on, but allow you to up-grade the braking system as well. Raybestos make a Super Stop Extreme Duty Rotor that is both cross drilled and gas slotted, it is a great rotor. Power Stop makes good rotors, as does Brembo. Both make rotors for the Dodge truck. There are several more, I recently did a complete brake job on my dodge, and have bought all the supply's to do my Ford, so some of the brands are fresh in my mind. I bought the Power Stops for the Ford, and they look like real nice rotors. They recommended there carbon/metallic 911 pads and shoes, so I went with them. On the Dodge I chose to go with EGR's carbon/Kevlar pads and shoes, they are great. I also went with their lines, fluid, and rear wheel cylinders, no regrets at all, I have the kind of brakes I thought was only possible with a sport car. I think it was one of, or maybe the best improvement to the truck so far, extremely good brakes.

Use your computer and search around, there are many places to look and much money to save. I like to go to the manufacturers web site, look up the correct part numbers for my truck, then go shopping for the best price. If you take the time to get the CORRECT part number, their will be NO surprises when the UPS man comes.
