I have a 2004. 5 and the fuel guage is slow to respond after putting in some of that liquid gold. Anyone else have this problem?

I find on my '02 that there is a priority system on the canbus after engine start. Until the water temp comes up to about 1/2 way to the normal zone (about 1/8th of the temp gauge) there is only one or two fuel level samplings. After about 1/2 way to normal temperature then the fuel level sampling occurs at a much faster rate.

I think there is a priority sequencing going on, and the fuel level is not real high on the list. It does seem to get sampled once right after engine start, but then not for another several minutes. It does seem to be based somewhat on engine "normal" operating range.

I verified this by removing about 15 gallons of fuel after engine shutdown but before engine start. At key on it thought that slightly less than the orgional amount was in the tank. Right after engine start it moved about 1/3 of the way toward the correct reading. Then there was a period of about 5 minutes it read incorrectly but moved slowly in increments toward the correct reading (you could see the data sample interval happening), then as it warmed up it started to adjust the gauge in about 15 second increments toward the correct reading and achieved the correct reading about when the water temp was entering the low end of the "normal" range.

Just my observations,

I'm pretty sure there is a TSB for that. It takes care of a few other things also. Search the TSB list and I think you will find it.
