Search causing IE5/win2k to terminate??

At about 1;30 PM eastern the TDR went into slow motion for me,went to another website,it worked fine. TDR took 2 minutes after clicking post new topic for the screen to pop up and if it's anything like the last topic I was on will take at least 2 more minutes to come back after submitting the new post. You guys having problems or is it on my end?

I am having the same problem. Maybe that is why they want our renewal money six months in advance--so they can replace server. I hope somebody does something.

<font color=blue>My connection is ok, so I doubt its the TDR server, its more then likely some traffic on the "net" between your connection and the TDR server. I am on a Cable Modem so pages come up instantly for me... ... ... was just checking in before heading to work and everything "Seems" to be fine speed wise on this end of the "net".

Kat or anyone,How does your connection work when things are busy,is there any kind of priority given if you make the connection before things get busy, sort of like first come first serve for the best service or does everyone slow when things get busy. Speaking mainly of a phone line connection. Right now when things are working good it's about 1-2 seconds between TDR pages for me. When it was slow even my user name took 30 seconds to come up,reset cookies and the page that says wait 3 seconds was up until the infamous can't find sever page page popped up. BTW,tdr is back to normal at 3:00 pm.

I too have a cable modem and it can even slow down a bit during peak times, although nothing compared to what you're seeing. Most people don't realize how many different routes the info on the web can take to get to a destination. Here's a good example:

Go to a command prompt ( c:\> ) and type

tracert www.turbodieselregister.com

On my system, it took 12 hops over different routers to get there. Look a the time between routers. If you see many over 100ms, then things will slow down.

Isn't PING-ing esentially the same process without diplaying the router hops?
This site hauls more *ss than a BOMBed Cummins when i'm @ work on the T1, wish I had downloading rights, course I'd be on napster all day as opossed to doing work.

The server itself barely feels the load, even at peak times.

The problems experienced have to do with a problem with one of the OC-12 lines supplied by Verizon to our hosting facility. It's intermitant and they are aware of the problem.

TDR's hosting facility is one of the best in the world and has amoung its neighbors some Yahoo servers. The facility has a couple OC-48's, several OC-12's, T3s and T1 lines. 99. 9999% of the time (except when there are equipment problems), bottlenecks are due to a lack of bandwidth between you and TDR, not at TDR's facility.

The facility is 1 hop from the "backbone. " Few facilities can claim that. TDR wanted the best for its users. A lot of research went into picking the facility.

If you want to amuse yourself sometime, try this for a link:
http://visualroute. city-guide.com/

You can put in www.turbodieselregister.com in the entry field and press enter. This will show you a neat little map and the data to go with it. I just tried it and it showed only only 62ms for 15hops from Tampa to the TDR. However my horrid link is 250ms from Tampa to my test desktop server (joespond. d2g.com)

Next press the button next to that field and have your IP number loaded for the test from tampa. Should prove interesting to most, assuming you get the general jist of how this works.

This is another interesting place to get a feel for what is going on 'under the hood' on the net. (you can find on my website also) http://www.internettrafficreport.com/cgi-bin/tr_chartpage. pl?NorthAmerica

The above showed a massive packet loss in Seattle around the earthquake. .

PS:Anyone who wants to try and serve websites from their desktop at home, try using the free service from deerfield.com that will map your dynamicIP to a webURL!!

David, thanks for visual hop very interesting. I'm about as far from Tampa as you can get in the lower 48. Tried it a few different times ranged from 359 to 210 ms with 98 of it from me to my server 40 miles away. Always 4 hops in Seattle. Fastest was Sea to Atlanta then Orlando-Tampa with 12 hops. Slowest Sea-LA-Denver-Chicago-Atlanta-Olan-Tampa with 32 hops.
Cool!!!

Ken,Thanks for clearing up where the bottle neck is. It happens to me once in a great while, usually lasts about 2 hours.
