Steve/Robin, I have been having the site CRAWL lately, it is the only site I frequent that has been slow. I have been trying to do the tracert thing for you to see if it will help identify the slow spots but I cannot keep the window up to get any information from. As soon as it completes the window vanishes, it must be some sort of auto-close. I recently upgraded to Windows XP Pro, before the window stayed up and now it vanishes. What do I need to do? Click "Start", then "Run". In the "Run" box, type cmd and hit "Enter"
You will now have a command prompt where you can type your tracert command.
On my XP system, tracert wouldn't run unless I was in the system32 folder.
Here's one way to set it up so you can run tracert.
type path=c:\windows\system32 (use winnt instead of windows if your XP is installed in that folder)
Now you can type tracert www.turbodieselregister.com or use 216. 235. 147. 117 if you like

Like Doc said if you bring up a command window it won't go away. You can also just put this in the run window
tracert www.turbodieselregister.com > c:\tracert. txt
and it will put the tracert in the c:\tracert. txt file that you could then copy and paste into a message rather than retyping it yourself. I'm on the site all times of the day every day and have seen very few times that it's slow. When it has been slow every time it's been something between me and the ISP since the last go around with slow downs at the ISP (about a month or so ago). Last night there was a MAJOR problem with the internet backbone in the chicago area that caused problems for me. Illflem - when it's slow for you please make a copy of that tracert and email it to me or post it on here so I can check it out.
In looking at the server logs we aren't seeing excessive server loads at all. Looking at the SQL server info (which serves up all the data for the forums) there are an average of 15. 5 slow queries per hour out of 92981 (slow being defined as greater than 10 seconds) or . 017% of queries.

The highest load on the server in the last few days is 1. 19 - it's a dual CPU system so a 100% load is 2. 0 . So the server isn't getting loaded up. When you say slow response in the forums how slow are you talking about?
Slow is a relative term, that said, under normal conditions the forum loads as soon as I click on the next link. On slow speed a pause of 3-5 seconds between mouse action and loading of the page. Extreme slow is 15 seconds and that is 5% of the slow loads, which is about 3% of my total surfing on the forums. So I guess this all adds up to DSL has spoiled me rotten, and I was wanting to provide feedback from the field in case there was something more to it than my impatience.

That's a backbone problem shovelhead and just outside of your ISP too. That's something between your ISP and our hosting facility - nothing we could ever have control over. Thanks for the info.
Just trying to see if we can all figure out what's going on. 
Sometimes I click and the next page jumps right up, other times click and it will take 1 or 2 minutes to load a page.

By slow I mean over 15 seconds for a new query, sometimes it is over 60 seconds to open a new forum.
