Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lift Pump pressure measurements

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) how to replace lift pump?

About 2 days ago I noticed that on initial start in morning or after the truck sits for a while, it is slow to accelerate (hesitates or bogs down) on the initial aceleration. It clears up after about 10-20 seconds then runs fine after that. I am getting normal fuel press- 12-14psi.

Is this a sign of something coming? I'm leaving on a 4200mile trip for 9 days Sat. & am a little concerned.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated?

Thanks

APPS ( accellerator peddle postion sensor ) may be your problem - however it normally progressively gets worst and will throw a code ( from first problem to code 3 months or 25000 km driving before I got my code myself).

MAP ( manifold absolute pressure ) may need to be replaced.

IAT ( intake air temp ) may need to be cleaned or replaced.

Good luck.

Check your MAP sensor, my 99 did the same thing and this sensor was the problem..... low voltage kept the computer from fueling until boost was up. $99. 00 at the dealer. Easy to replace.

My 99 is doing the same thing...

Dumb question... How do you check the MAP sensor? Took it to a shop and there are no codes and fuel pressure is good.

Thanks

You need to drive it with a monitor and watch the sensor voltage, knowing what it should be doing is the key:D

Very easy with my setup. With the FMS, I just had to monitor the boost reading. I changed the resolution to tenths and after talking to Chip at Blue Chip, the box should start to fuel at around . 5 on the boost gauge. My MAP didn't allow fueling until around 7 on the gauge.

The neat trick that Chip taught me was I could "fix" the old sensor. All I had to do was remove and bend the diaphragm slightly by sticking a small screwdriver into the opening. Worked like a charm. I have been running this MAP sensor for six months, and truck is running great!

The price of a new one though, is only $99. 00 at the dealer.

Hope this helps
