Starting today my truck took longer than usual to start. Usually the truck fires almost immediately but now takes approximately 5 sceonds of cranking before it starts (maybe more than 5sec. I did not time it). When it finally starts it runs rough for a second then runs fine. Fuel pressure is 9psi at idle, and never drops below 2psi. Some times if the truck does not run after the first attempt my fuel pump runs constantly showing 9 psi on the gauge. If I restart it at this time the truck fires right up. I am showing 2 Fault codes P0602 and P1693. There is some suggestion that switching my ECM to the Catcher may have caused this???

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Rick,

Rick, looks like you might be having a fuel issue. I just replaced my lift pump because it idled at 7 psi and would bottom the needle on the gauge (2 psi) at WOT. Now I am seeing 15 psi at idle and 8-9 at WOT. I also have the P1693 code. I'm not sure when it showed up. I just installed my Mach 1. 6 injectors today which caused a "hard" start until the air was out. No other codes though and man does it want to run!!! Good luck.

Rick, The Po602 code is a nuisance code "ecm operating outside of stock parameters" it always come up and cause no problem and no cel either.

The P1693 is just a companion code.

Check your fuel system

my truck was doing the same thing untill i replaced my fuel system. ripped out my pusher pump and and factory lift & replaced with a FASS. i replaced the entire fuel system with 1/2" stainless right from pump to fuel filter then filter to VP. now my problem is back after driving for a month or so (pretty sure its a loose connection somewhere). No leaks anywhere so perhaps its letting air in on the suction side... .

Update...

Installed new lift pump today. Started fine for the first few attempts, then back to the same old problem. Fuel press. 15psi at idle, drops 4-5psi on acceleration. No other codes. Full fuel tank. Visual inspection of lines, ok. Wondering if it is something in the tank????

Plan,

1. Burn truck to ground( only kidding).

2. Put truck back up on ramps to see if it starts better. (this is where it was when it started fine)

3. Fuel pressure gauge is connected to VP44 at Schrader valve. Will unhook to see if it is causing pump to lose prime.

4. See # 1.

Still no change... Monday I'll change the overflow check valve. Manual says that it could cause problems like this. Then ????

Took a while to get back with the eventual problem/cure. BAD FUEL!!!! I guess i've never had bad fuel before. Truck was near empty on the gauge. Filled'er up---PROBLEM GONE...

Glad to hear you made out ok. To clear my code, I ended up disconnecting the batteries, then turning the ignition to "on". I waited what turned out to be a few hours (not sure how long it really takes). Turned the key off, reconnected the batteries and code was gone.
