hello all

this is my first post in the 2nd gen forum, have had other posts in the 1st gen forum before. I am currently looking at buying a 95 2wd ext cab slt CTD with 142 km( 88,000 miles) The truck is in beautiful shape, owned by an older fellow and his wife. I have no complaints about it except for the fact that it seems sluggish. My 91 dually CTD would stomp this thing! Any ideas as to why it behaves the way it does? It has a 5 speed, 3. 54 posi, the injectors were done at 60, 000miles- why, I don't know. Don't know that much about the 2nd gen engines. Anyone have the stock specs for engine output? Any suggestions/info greatly appreciated.

Thanks; Dean

A stock '95 auto is no power house for sure (160 hp 400 ftlb). However, it doesn't take much to wake it up. It may need some adjustments. Timing and valves for example.

A fuel plate, governor spring kit, intake and exhaust mods, and timing bump will really make it run well. If you want to go further, a set of bigger injectors, and turbo upgrade will make you a little poorer, but VERY happy.

Don't judge a truck by its stock performance. Look deeper at its possibilities.

100% agreement with Bighammer!!

I bought my 95 and had the same complaint. I am halfway through the list Bighammer gave and am very happy. I can now live with it until I can afford further upgrades. I almost sold it early on because I was so disappointed in the stock performance.

There is a page on Genos website that gives the Specs you are looking for. I believe it would be 160 hp & 400 Lbs torque.

a '95 5 speed has 175HP and 420Ft Lbs. Just timing the pump and sliding the stock fuel plate forward will give you a smile. your budget depends on how big of grin you want :D. Slowly my grin is getting bigger... .

Is the truck your looking at sluggish all through the power or just in the upper rpm's?

I whole heartedly agree with Bighammer too! When I bought my truck I was surely impressed with its power because I had never driven a truck with that much power. (first truck was a 93 Toyota

NOW! It runs like a scaleded ape! And I have to be careful who I let drive it! :D Oo.

My '95 feels like a monster and I don't feel like I've gone crazy with it or anything. Just last weekend I was towing 10k pounds up Virginia hills at 80mph without it even breaking a sweat (or downshifting)

I agree with bighammer also, but... . if you want to spend no money for the time being, slide the stock plate all the way forward, turn the pre fuel screw in about two and a half turns and adjust the waste gate so you get at least 30 lbs boost and you won't believe the difference in the way it runs.

I have a 95 auto and have been down that road. If you just wont to slide the plate( grind the slots in the plate to get a little more) afc housing also, modify the afc housing to get more rack travel. Check to make sure you are getting full throttle, all inner cooler clamps are tight, block the waste gate, free up the exhaust, just a better muffler( not a complete exhaust) modify the governor settings,

All of these things helped my truck run better, but did not help mileage, Timing did make a huge difference in mileage, and better throttle response. I run 17 degrees now and I like the way it runs. After doing the free things I later on installed a tst #6 slid all the way forward and a 3 k governor kit. Get the 4 k kit as that is what I would do now. I would also make the adjustment that Piers recommends to make sure that the rocker does not hang up. I would buy a #5 plate if I had a 5 speed. Add some injectors(215) If you just have to have more later on. If you feel the need for a lot more than add larger delivery valves and 370 injectors The clutch will be gone by then anyway so add that to the shoping list.

I stoped at the plate and governor kit with timing. Plenty with a stock automatic. But I get 19. 5 miles to the gallon to so that is good enough. Some day I will have to deal with the auto but for now it is working good. lol Jim
