Oo. I want to thank all that gave me info on how to fix my Fuel solenoid problem

I learned a lot more about my truck and especially learned to Open my eyes a little wider when I look at my manual.

By the way the radio shack relay for $6. 00 is NOT the one for the fuel solenoid.

The larger of the two that are side by side is the correct one... of course some of you told me that BUT one of my problems was that the previous owner of my truck had changed the Fuel relay and left the old one attached to the firewall, and the replacement with attached wiring just laying across the Vacuum tank, so when looking for it that relay was empty. It looked like nothing was supposed to be connected to it.

Bottom line I took the truck to a shop and $46 later I got a call telling me what my problem was and lo and behold it was as so many suggested THE RELAY FOR THE FUEL SHUTDOWN SOLENOID

I went to a local dodge dealer and bought for another $45. 00 + tax the correct relay.

Part number 4607036 it is not listed as the fuel shut off relay and it helps if you give them the Vin number of your truck. By the way if you do need the solenoid Piers has it for $149. 00.

Thanks again people My wife is happy that she does not have to lift the hood for me as I sit in the truck... . you don't think I want her driving it do you???:--)

I had the same prob. about 6 mths. after I bought my truck. The relay was hiding down behind the wiring harness, instead of being where it was supposed to be. You got your relay a little cheaper than I did from the dealer(just under $51 w/tax).

The Radio Shack relay will work just fine in the sockey for the large relay. It is rated at 30 amps. That will do the job. Another recent post on this subject found that Cummins has a 30 amp relay for about a dollar less than the Radio Shack relay that will work fine too.

I STAND CORRECTED

I am going to try putting the smaller Radio shack relay in today to see if it works and will let you know since I now have both the one from Dodge and the Radio shack one If I'm wrong I will sure apoligize for saying it will not fit the Fuel solenoid connector.

I STAND CORRECTED

I JUST TRIED THE SMALLER RELAY FROM RADIO SHACK AND IT DOES FIT AND THE TRUCK WILL START WITH IT... ...

BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH SMALLER I KNOW "I" WOULDN"T LEAVE IT IN VERY LONG BUT IT DOES FIT AND IT DOES WORK.

I apoligize for saying it would not JOE G is correct

I hope you didn't throw the old one away. You can take the old one apart and clean the contacts. Then toss it in your "booney" box to keep as an emergency spare.

The physical size of the relay doesn't mean much. It's the amp capacity that counts.

That's exactly what I did and I bet I've put 10K miles on it since then. :D

To take apart the relay you have to dis engage a tab from a slot on each side of the relay near the base. see pic on next post

See the tab in the center above the 2 contacts. There is 1 on each side. A small shim slide between the case and base to disengage the tabs will work.

I have some 70amp relays if anyone is interested. They have the metal mounting tab but not the plastic skirt. I always carry a spare.
