first of all let me say the smarty has met its goal of giving me back the mileage I lost when I went from an '02 6 speed to my current truck, I am seeing a solid 10% better mileage while towing which means in a little over a year the unit will pay for itself, however the only thing I don't like about it is the 4th gear shift while towing my 5k cargo trailer, I tow alot around town which means often slower speeds around 45-50mph the problem is between 47and 55 mph I always get a 4th gear shift which puts me down to 1300rpm which in turn means in order to speed up just a little it lugs the engine and smokes quite a bit, the stock program will hold this shift as long as you have slight acceleration up to over 60mph, the smarty seems to run my trans much the same why my dads stock early 04 runs his if I remember correctly, all this is no issue with no load on the truck, has anyone else noticed this I am running s-05a I believe

Wouldn't pushing the tow haul button make it unlock and keep it from lugging?
If you touch the brake pedal it will make it unlock also on mine.

using tow haul changes nothing, the only thing I can do to lock out that shift is hit OD off, I just wish it would hold the 4th gear shift like the stock program does

what gear ratio do you have. It's possible that could be your problem. If not, what's wrong with just turning off OD. Driving around at those speeds almost calls for it. You could always just change the SW too.

Do you have diff size tires? If so, adjust w/ smarty... . might help

no its stock tires and 3:73's I can hit the OD off switch but then I have to hit it 2 more times to get it back into tow haul which causes the trans to immediatly hit OD, then shift out of OD again and back when tow haul mode is activated, plus OD off does not lock the TC up at slower speeds below 45mph or so, which is not helpful in traffic. I don't know why they don't have it lock the TC the same as tow haul does.
