Okay, trying to help out in the towing department, as I have 3. 54's, auto, and 15000# fifth wheel.

Gear Swap= new carrier and gears $2000. 00 plus

Gear Vendors/US Gear=$3000. 00 plus

What about the smallest tire available to handle the bed weight. E rating would be nice, but D may be okay. I was playing with a gear calculator excel form, and it may be enough rpm gain to help on those hills.

My situation, truck is now used as a b-up or tow vehicle only.

Any links would be great!

I think 215/85/r16 is the smallest I'd go and I'd stick with "E" tires- "D"s would tend to add "Push" with 15,000 of trailer behind it.

ctdodgeram,

Gear swap? Are you talking about changing from 3:55 to say 3:73 or 4:10? I looked into changing my 3:55 to 3:73 and it was not $2000 at Ft Worth gear and axle. I was told the needed parts for the change was $250, $250 to install and if you have them pull the axle it's another $250, total $1000. They prefer to do the work with axle removed.

SHobbs- I have a 4x4, so double it. I also need the D-80 carrier I am told.

CHampsPA- I I want smaller diameter, not larger.

TPOD- California? Yeah, $600. 00 in fuel out, $700. 00 back. Without seeing it first, I am leery of shipping. And, of course, 2 weeks vacation.

One more point, he's 2WD, I'm 4WD.
