Oo. Having pac brake and DTT smart comtroler installed on Friday:rolleyes: Has anyone else done this ? And how does it work for you pulling down hills with a load. :D :D :D

I have this combo as well and driving over Vail Pass with about 9,000lbs behind me was a piece of cake. Coming down the west side I probably tapped my brakes 5 or six times. And on really steep inclines (like McClure Pass between Paonia and Carbondale in western Colo. ), keeping lock-up down to about 18 mph in 2nd is about as stress free as you can ask on those tough hauls!

Good luck, JRG

Pacbrake-Smart control

KBertoch, I have this combination as well. Also have other DTT products. The combination you are asking about saved me big time last summer on a trip to Fla. Coming over the top of a hill, traffic was dead in the road in front of me in both lanes. No room to move. Braked very hard from about 68 MPH and felt packbrake take hold. Smart Control kept lock up and we came to a stop less than two feet from the rear of a Dodge Caravan. I don't know who had more of the shakes after we stopped, us or the folks in the Caravan. I am certain in my own mind that if we had not had one or the other of these two items we would not have had a successful stop. Both in combination worked as advertised. My satisfaction could not be higher for these products. I reccomend them.

Good luck, John

DTT tc and engine with the Smart Controler I havent needed the pac brake yet on 4 lanes( 15k miles of towing west of the front range). Have sped up on down sides a couple of times so I could use it. I have used the brake in second on some really tough 2 lanes and dirt though. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

hey joe garcia

Hey joe! did ya ajust your smart controller to stay locked @ 18mph?mine disengauges @ 25 mph. ( preset @dtt)

Carson6,

Is that in drive or 2nd lockup? Mine goes off about 29mph in drive or I can go down to 2nd gear lockup and the brake will kick off around 18mph. Take in account that the controller is totally programmable though.

Could you explain what you mean by 2nd gear lockup? Are you manually locking the TC or is that done by the smart controller? If manually, what setup do you have?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave

I don't have a pac brake but with Bill's valve body I can have mine locked up and manually select 3rd(direct) then second while slowing down, They do all the V/B's like this now. You guys make me want a brake and I don't even tow:D

Jim

I mean manually locking it up.

Bill's setup will allow your to pull the stick down to 2nd gear and the TC will remain locked up. At 18mph the Smart controller will then force the TC to unlock itself.

Make sense?

Kev

Sorry for the late reply, but Kev's got it covered! 2nd gear lockup is maintained through manual shifting. Speed is adjustable on the controller.

PAC BRAKE & CONTROLER

Oo. Oh Baby:D What a ride it is. It's in and run Great. :) I Can't belive how good it holds you back when you ingauge the brake. Thanks. DTT. :D :D :D

pac brake?

75mph smart box on i hit the pac brake it slow's to about50 than ulock's than lock's into 3rd and slow's to about 35 than unlock's and won't lock into(manualy) 2nd it only lock's into 2nd if you start out in 2nd(manual) it would be cool if it would downshift and lock in 4th,3rd,2nd all by it self.

I got a question for you brake guys.........

I have a hard time stopping my truck. Even with the severe service brakes from EGR it's a pain. My truck weighs 11K Lbs as a daily driver. This is where I would be curious about a pacbrake. Do you all think it would be helpful as a daily driver thing. I know most of you use it when towing and on long trips. I know I have a lot of weight to stop so anything would help. I'm also concerned that my auto transmission won't hold up to the abuse of daily stop and go. My original brakes only lasted 20k miles and had to replace the rotors from heat cracking. Any and all opinions on this issue would be a help.

Thanks, Garrett

Garrett,

I see you have DTT transmission parts, so a Pak Brake is a do- able addition. Other threads indicate that a lot of drivers use theirs all the time. I do know that Bill K. will always warn you that use of the Pak Brake will shorten the life of your auto transmission, so it would be advisable to call him to get more of an idea how much extra wear you can expect. I would also ask him about the Smart Controller, as this device will help control your tc lock up, lock up being necessary in order for the brake to work properly. With a heavy rig like yours, I’d have to think it would be money well spent. It won’t bring you to a dead stop in stop and go traffic, but it will sure save on brakes on those stretches where you’re doing 70 mph down to 30, and up and down like you do on so many freeways. Hope this helps.

Good luck

Joaquin
