Here's one for you to remember.

Supposedly my truck has the "chipped" key security system. Without the proper chip the truck won't start.

I started this thread because my wife's Nissan Murano put me down three times. Once at the house and two times away from home. All three times, I was using my keys to her car. I could wait for about 30 minutes and the car would started (all three times) and I took it directly to the dealer for repair (not knowing it might be the key). Turns out, it is the key. It's an intermittent failure in the way that particular key is read by the computer. The solution is to rekey (under warranty, $40 per key) and reprogram the computer for the new keys.

The dealer made me a key for my truck but told me that it will only unlock and not start the truck. I haven't tried it but will. I didn't realize these trucks had a chipped key sentry system.

The chipped key is part of the security system, which was an option on the 04's and previous. I don't know if it's still an option, or is standard on the 05's.

The reason I posted this is because occasionally I read where a truck won't start. That is what the Murano was doing. Then later, it would start. With a "chipped" key, that may be the problem.

Dont know if this is true or not, but the dealer told me to never put both chipped keys in my pocket together, he claimed that if the rubbed around together it could damage the chip in key? Who knows but I have never tried to find out

You get a flashing red led on the dash if both keys are in the car.

I found this out the other night, but it did start ok.
