I have a 2006 w/6 speed; everything stock. With the Smarty on #3 I get clutch slippage at full throttle. Right now its not too bad (also not good) but I get a 150 to 200 rpm drop as soon as I let off. It's the worst at 1800 to 2100 rpm. From what I've read the stock clutch should hold #3.

So is there anything I can do or am I in for a new clutch?

Some clutches are just better then others from what I have heard.

My truck dynos 390 on level 5 and my clutch holds everything I thorw at it.

I'm carrying 2000# on my back, and before removing Smarty it held #3 fine. I'm running 285's. I doubt 315's would work with my load and #3. Clutch held fine, blackouts at intersections don't work.

My 2004 3500 Ram 6spd. with a stage II predator power module pulls an 18,000# trailer. Noticed slippage when downshifting from sixth to fifth and throttling up from 1700 toward 2000 rpm. Otherwise, no slippage in any other gear. With only 18,000 miles, I hate to have to upgrade, but it seems inevitable!

The stock clutch in my 07 was GARBAGE. When I removed it to install a SB dualdisc, the flywheel and pressure plate were pockmarked with high spots and areas that the facings never even touched, didnt even hold smarty at level 3. Its much better now! :D

Some must be better than others. Mine has nearly 85k on it, was used for heavy towing for the first 70k, and had some sort of box on it during that time. With the mods I have now, I run the 60 hp setting daily and have no slip on the original clutch.

At about 20k miles my stock clutch started slipping on Smarty #5, then I dropped to #3. After about 5k miles started slipping again, then down to #1. Now it just barely holds on stock mode.

I just bought a HD trans. jack and will be calling SBC soon.

If any of you guys in my area are in the same boat as me and would like to do a swap together, PM me. I think I have enough tools.

Mine is still holding so I'm not in a situation that I have to do this ASAP, but I'm pretty sure I'll be getting greasey within the next couple months.

Well since my first post on this I have done some more testing. I have downloaded all 3 torque managemant programs for a stock engine. Lately I had the stock torque managment with Smarty in position #3- slips clutch. #2 and #1 - still slips. So I go back to 100% stock - no more slippage.

So it looks like I will be stock untill I can afford to get a better clutch put in. I guess I just got a crappy clutch.

Thaks for the help and replies.

Jeff

same boat. just install sbc today and will try on thursday. i put a single dics in and hope that i do not regret it. only going to run the smarty and no crazy launches or anything. i was told this was the best choice for me. are the single discs owners out there happy with their sbc.

ya i replaced mine at the 1st sign of slippage so when i replace it w/dd my stock clutch and fly wheel are like new still have factory hash marks it looks like new just won't hold smarty any one needs a stock set up thats in very good condition FOR SALE (flywheel/clutch/pressure plate) pictures available

just finished my sbc install. oem clutch is perfect. no burns , has all hash marks, and 3 times the material as new sbc. just does not hold the smarty, i replaced it after the first times it slipped.

i have pics, will sell the parts if anybody interested.

Please post your impressions of the new SBC setup you installed. There seems to be a wide variety of results, especially driveability. Everybody's holds, but driveability seems to suffer with some owners.

I had my Smarty on level 3 (70hp). It was a kick to drive until I hooked on to my 8500 lb. travel trailer. Slipped as soon as I made the first shift from 4th. to 5th gear at around 2200 rpms. Smarty directions said it should hold at level 5 it didn't The way I looked at it, you gonna play you gonna pay. I spoke with Rip at Source Automotive and he said" some factory clutches are better than others". As posted, some of the factory clutches hold over 500hp, some slip at a 50hp increase. I took good care of my factory clutch for 28000 miles, never slipped it, did zero throttle starts and it slipped with the Smarty. Once slipped your clutch is toast. You can probably nurse it, but most likely a new South Bend Clutch will cure the problem.

i installed a con fe with new flywheel in my g56 with hydraulic upgrade. there is no difference in noise, engagement, or getting it into gear from the stock clutch. it just holds. the pedal pressure is a little more, but not much.

So is the advantage of a dual disc just that it will hold more torque? Will it last longer?

I do not plan on getting wild with the mods like a new turbo or crazy increase in HP. I want to run the 60hp or maybe the 90hp setting on the smarty.

Mine slips in 5 pretty easily, somewhat in 3 if I floor it, but you don't notice it until upper RPMs (well up into the torque band, say over 2300). I'm running the new 4. 12 in moderate TQ and in SW 1 I don't get any slippage that I can tell. Seems to be better Fuel Econ as well.
