Smarty and TCC control?

2nd gen better BHAF and shield

injectors ?

Marco- I've been following developments with interest, but I don't see where this has come up yet:

Can you rewrite the software so that the torque converter clutch will engage in second gear during acceleration, rather than just third and fourth gears? Speaking of the years prior to '07 of course.

That has always been a weakness of this transmission design, that we have to wait until third for lockup, while other makes lock in second.

Given that the 48RE can lock in second when manually shifted (speaking of the 2005's anyway) it appears there is no mechanical reason it won't work.

??

Thanks-

Gary

I hope this thread doesn't go un-noticed. It would be great if the Smarty could provide some transmission control.

48re isn't designed for 2-3 shift locked. This would break the transmission with repeated locked 2-3 shifts. 3-4 is designed to be a locked shift.

A HD TC and fully built billet trans can do the 2-3 shifts locked ok. I don't think it is designed to do any real locked shifts from the factory. I think it unlocks, shifts and locks back up normally in the 3-4 shift. I have a button to lock mine and normally lock in 1st gear and don't let off the button until the end of the 1/4.

I think he meant ( 1st-2nd-2nd lock-up-3rd-3rd lock-up-4th)

Sorry to dig this thread back up, but I would be really interested in a set of Smarty programs that were designed around beefed up trannies - esp the 2nd gear lockup, as towing heavy on backroads gets a little toasty, especially with Smarty doing his thing.

Possibly even softwares designed around exhaust brakes...

04' accually is when it started. the best shift strategy would be

1st, 2nd, 2nd lockup 3rd lock up 4th lock up, that has been proven the fastest and the safest for a built transmission, if marco can do it it will ramp his sales up 5 fold, at least

MARCO WHERE ARE YOU, WE NEED transmission CONTROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oo.

Bob, Marco, any plans for transmission programming? Sounds like there's demand for 2nd gear lockup, and exhaust brake programming for 05s would probably spark additional interest. There had been people waiting for DC to come up with some kind of a flash allowing 05 automatics to use an exhaust brake... .

Back to work!

OK, vacation's over now. Just like mine :{

Any chance of a straight up answer?

As I said before, I don't see any mechanical limitation of the transmission preventing this, you can sorta fake it into happening with the '05 by shifting manually, but the trans gets confused when you shift second to drive, it unlocks and thinks about what do do for a bit.

To the point, it seems like a software mod to the ECM could command the TC lockup action in second without requiring the shifter to be in "2".

I would like to see 1, 2, 2 locked, 3 locked, 4 locked. I believe with factory programming the TC unlocks briefly during the 3-4 shift (not really doing any "locked" shifts). Anyone know for a fact if that's accurate?

Smarty and trans controller

I have been running my ATS transmission with ATS's Commander and the Smarty. I think they work fine together. The ATS Commander or Copilot which some folks have just sets the MPH lockup point which you select. I believe it's strictly a MPH setting. I know Marco has done some tuning on the Smarty's shift points with the later software but the Smarty in my case has worked great with the ATS controller. Both my stock trans and the ATS trans will occasionally do the the 1-2-1-2 shift shuffle, (that many report), when I'm just just putzing around and real light on the throttle. It's never been an issue for me - probably just that trans control kickdown cable adjustment on my 2004. 5 model. I usually have the lock-up speed set to about 38 mph versus the factory controlled near 50 mph lockup. I can feather the throttle on a 10 psi boost launch and lightly spin through 1st and 2nd and then the lockup hits and I can annilate the tires through 3rd and OD with the converter locked. This practice has shocked many of my unsuspecting passengers.

I asked ATS about the Smarty with the enhanced torque management being hard on the trans and they said no problem - "go for it".

 Just my 2 cents.
